Probably a couple hours of shop time. So I'd expect to pay $150 - $200. I'd go three degrees. I know somebody that did that before. There's a pic in this thread. fork/ suspention for the xr80 |

A good fab guy can do that in 3-4 hours. Done the right way. 100.00-300.00. Cut welded and all squared up properly.

does the whole neck have to be cut off to change the rake? couldnt a guy just cut out a small sliver near the bottom, join it back up and reweld?

i meant just up by the neck. almost cut it off but leave the top connected, kinda like a hinge. then close the gap and weld.

With out a bunch of heat it not just going to lay down, The proper way to do that is to jig the frame up Cut it off Square it up with the center line then reweld it in. That is the right way and the only way that I would attack it. I am sure you are going to get alot of opinions on this. But thats how it done in real bike shop the way I explained it. If you mickey mouse it with pie cuts and all. It most likley not going to track right and the geometry will be all caga wampus. |

your prob right, however this is just a play bike for me. the frame geometry went out the door with the install of a dnm linkage-less rear......still turns just fine though. i think with some good measuring a pie cut would prob work for me, or i might try the tube bender method gman used and add a cradle. hmmm

I considered cutting off the head tube in my Retro Frankenbike to decrease the rake angle. However, I would have made a frame jig before attempting it. The XR 100 frame has some short comings structurally. But the did skimp on supporting the head tube. IMHO Attempting to remove just a sliver would be a challenge for any frame surgeon. I decided to think a little out of the box to decrease the rake on my project, and was planning to fab a full engine cradle anyhow. I removed the down tube (front engine support) and the cross brace. Slipped the whole frame in to the pump jack bender and bent the back bone. Till the head angle was decreased about 5*. Defiantly is less work, considering jig T&M. With a stock'r, Probably could reuse the downtube and crossbrace if removed with a steady hand and some fishmouth/plugs for additional support. Then again, New material is real inexpensive. Here are some pic's I post in another thread. so i put ysr wheels on my xr100 with kx85 forks Good luck with your quest XR 80/100 frames all over ebay, go for it! Now getting another frame to try out seems like the best idea. Also bending the backbone also is a another good one. Just make sure that when you reweld everything. You get good penatration. You dont want that thing tearing apart on a hard landing. |

I took a ttr 90 frame and took the stock headtube off and welded a kx 60 headtube so I can use any 110, 60, or even the 65 frontend. Turned out nice. I might try to do my rake angle change on my 70 frame also I have two of them to do since the stock rake is horrible. I am going to see how a buddy that owns a stock car shop that builds chassis and makes his own roll cages see what he charges to do it since I know him. We will see if he can and how much since I am too busy with work to do it now. |
