KLX 125 Conversion

alright, I am a newb, but I have questions....

I have a a 05 KLX 125 that I just bought. Previous owner had installed BBR pipe, rev box, 26mm carb, triple clamp & risers, springs front & rear. I have torn the motor down, getting it overbored to 61mm(150cc) & cam.

now for the chassis questions.

What are my options to make this a more RACEABLE bike? I have seen conversions done on here, but it seems like the YZ suspension is the way to go. Why not stay with KX? Can someone please give me the Cliff Note version of what needs to be done to retrofit a race bike suspension under this chassis?

Yeah, hang in there. This section of the forums doesn't have a lot of traffic. I've seen several conversions here and at Thumpertalk.

Re: KLX 125 Conversion

Hi- On your KLX suspension, the way to go is an RM85 front end. A KLX125 is really a Suzuki, so the stock front fender will work on the RM front end perfectly. You can use any front, they'll all basically bolt up, but the Suzuki will give you less headaches when it comes to running a # plate and front fender.

In the rear, a CR85 or CRF150R shock is what I've seen done, but I believe a KX85/100 or RM85 shock would be good too because the res on the KX shock comes straight off the shock body making it clear the frame more easily, as you may run the res on the opposite side. Another way would be to mount it the same as it is on the KX, then get a custom bend on your pipe. Just make sure that the pipe will still work with the engine cradle that you will undoubtedly need if you're going to jump the bike at all. --L*64

Re: KLX 125 Conversion

Hey parts guy, the only difference in KX/YZ forks is the YZs have adjustable rebound the KX does not. And of course the triples are different.

Re: KLX 125 Conversion

Anybody know how I can put a CRF230f motor in my 150f frame and disguise it as a 150? Or better yet, convert a 150r motor to air cooled?

Re: KLX 125 Conversion

I know that it will work with an RM/YZ/KX85 front for sure, and I know for sure that a KX100 shock will work, as will a CR85/150R shock with some minor mods. --L*64

Re: KLX 125 Conversion

I did the work on this bike for Partsguy and the KX front is a direct bolt-on. However as someone else mentioned a little tweaking was needed to make the plate work/look good. He hasn`t touched the rear except a BBR (worthless, because the rebound will throw you over the bars) spring.
