| Klx, crf or pitster
I would like feedback (good and bad) from people who have had the oppurtunity to ride the klx 140L, crf150f (08 or 09) and pitster 160 lxt or lxr (14). I am looking for a trail bike for my wife, 5'4" 125lbs plus gear. JR |

For a trail bike a honda would be your best bet, reliable, tough, and they also handle well.

Welcome to PM. I got a lxr 14 and i love this bike! It's been to a outdoor motocross(fast/rough)practice in the 85 class,to a free ride/downhill mtn trail(up it,tight/rocky/rooty/steep), to getting me back into riding, this is an impressive bike. It's the size of a 85,has great susp/handling and is light with a roomy cockpit. If she is just starting out get one with a 125 engine(one great thing about this bike is you can put different motors/wheels for different skill level's and uses)which is a easy starting and easy to ride(not intimating) engine. The crf150f is a great bike too,but it weigh's as much as a 250F,and i've never ridden the kawi so i don't know anything about it.

ive rode the kawi 140, and it handles good, and has decent power. It also has electric start, which is nice because if its her first bike, she going to be stalling it. |

Drawback to 150 is weight but on the flip side it's a Honda. Drawback to 140 two stage clutch sucks to speed shift but on the flip side it is much lighter then the 150. Drawback to 160 no electric start but on the flip side extremely light. I should mention I have ridden the 140 and an older 150 but not the 160. I would like to know if the 160 is hard to start cold and hot and how much effort is required to kick it over. Are the pitsters and Kawasaki reliable as the Honda? Any other feedback?

or get the lxr roller, and buy a different motor. the 160's are hard to start. but my yx140 started my hand today when u was checking for exhaust leaks. so...

for a trail bike you want something reliable either the kawi or honda will have a more reliable motor than the china gpx motor I have an 09 klx140L I use for beating around trails and its perfect. For trails its better than the crf150 because its got a better rear shock, and full front and rear disc brakes. If you've ever got drums brakes wet (which always happens on trails) they are useless. Trust me disc is the only way to go for offroad. klx140L hands down out of those three, you wont regret it. Not sure what that guy is talking about the clutch not being forgiving? It is so easy to use its near impossible to stall the bike out, easiest clutch ive ever felt. 10 times easier than my kx250's clutch. You can basically not even give it throttle from a standstill and it will chug a bit but pull right out, Kawi really got this bike right. |

i was hesitant about getting the 150f over the 140l due to the drum brakes but surprising, the drum brakes on the 150f work great. i have ridden the the 140l and the 150f. wouldn't buy a 140.. for myself atleast

all depends where you ride and the conditions ive ridden both and would never buy a crf150 for where I ride |

probably true. if your gonna do MX, get the 150f, its alot better suited. i suck and pulled the holeshot and lead the first lap against a guy with his pro license on a 140.. even he said that the 140 is gutless

lxt or crf are good trail bikes. Now that the lxt has an air box the open filter concern is gone. My dads wife has been riding lxt and loves it. It is much easier to start and ride than her xr200.
