XR80 engine swap issues

Everything I know about XR's tells me that you should be able to swap any year XR80 engine into any year XR. This is true, however you run into one problem.

I had a 1995 XR80 rolling chassis that I picked up with a bunch of other parts and I decided to make it into a rider. I had several early 80's XR80's engines so I put a new piston and ring in one and installed it into the frame. Everything bolts up perfect EXCEPT!

The early 80's kicker hits the brake stop and foot peg bolts. I thought this was no big deal and noticed the later XR's/CRF's had a kicker that's more flat instead of round. I bolted one of these up today and it doesn't quite hit as bad but it still hits.

The problem ends up being that the kicker shaft on the later XR's is longer than the older ones. I really can't see me taking this engine back apart so I'm probably going to take some heat and bend a little on the kicker to make it clear.
