| I think I might have nailed it! Cheap White Trash Fix
This might not be for everyone but it worked for me. I am the king of the white trash fix! When you don't have deep pockets, you work with what you got. I thought this would work and I think I nailed it. I wanted to get a better rear shock for my ST90(ZB copy). I really didn't want to spend close to $200 and get a shock that's not all that great. The ZB/ST takes a 210mm(8 1/4") shock. There are a bunch of mountain bike shocks out there that are 8 or 8.5 in length. I should have done a little more homework but I took a chance with this one on e-bay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=110341088911 I found a used Fox shock for $40 total shipped! It had a 500 spring which I think is a 500lbs spring. You can call the tech help on Fox's web page and they can help with the spring weight. I'm about 185lbs and with the weight of the bike and such it just sounded right(and if I was wrong I only spent $40). I had to drill out and mill(sand) down the spacers on the Fox shock to get it to fit(15 min with a drill bit and a disc sander, poof) but that was it. I took it for a ride around the block and it feels great. I don't know how long the shock will hold up but for $40, who cares! I could post pic's of the shock on the bike but there is really nothing to see. I should have taken pic's of the new shock with the spacers and the stock shock but I never plan **** out. Here is a link to Fox's website also. http://www.foxracingshox.com/ I think maybe an 8 1/2" shock with 550 or 600lbs(if my 500 is a 500lbs spring) might be better but right now I am happy. Like I said, this may not be for eveyone but for you cheap asses like myself, it might just work. I hope this helps someone out but I know I am the new ghetto superstar! 5000

Why didn't you get an airshock? Near infinite adjustability. But still. Cool cheap fix. I love this stuff. |

I thought about it, checked into them and decide to pass (partly because I am a lard arse). I also figured my ZB is about 130lbs heavier than a decent mountain bike. If this truely is a solution I would expect to see/have seen it from vendors. |
