Any particular reason for stickin at 125? just curious because you can get some bigger motors for a little bit more money but proboly be happier in the long run

Todd,

Please expand on this since you've owned numerous ZB's with different engine combinations.

Put me down as a Lifan 150 supporter. You'd spend thousands to have a Honda with comparable all-around performance.

The lifan 150 is $550. But you have to buy a lightning coil to run the lights on the ZB($50-$75 extra), I am not even sure they have a lightning coil for the 150. Second point, the Lifan 150 will not have the neutral switch in the case so the neutral light on the speedometer will not work when in neutral.

You need a lightning coil to run the lights and the Honda coil will never let you down. You can also keep the harness connections original.
If you build the original ZB Honda motor up the bike will hold its value. The serial numbers will match. The ZB is very rare.
If you decide to put a Chinese motor in your ZB.... KEEP the stock motor and carb (do not sell it).
They are some real nice and not that expensive kits from Trail Bikes that work on the ZB motor (12 volt, CDI motor. same kits as crf and xr) that will give you excellent reliability. 88cc, 108cc and if you want to case bore it 117cc. You have to decide on a clutch, either manual or automatic and that is more money. You can also upgrade to a Honda 4 speed transmission for not that much cash.

Entire ZB ignition swaps on to the lump of one's choosing, too, right?

Hmmm. Other than the e-start versions, arent they all the same under the left side cover? Stator plates swap, no?

Motoshop Z can get you the Honda Monkey 12 volt 4 speed AB27 trans and kickstarter shaft but you will have to split the cases to install it. If you want a good BBK go with the TB 108 stroker kit or if you split the cases for the four speed install get the cases bored and go to a TB117 cc but you will have to run an oil cooler. Depends on your budget.

I don't think so but I am not 100% sure. Here is a pic of the plate and stator assembly from a ZB motor. The light green wire goes to the neutral swich in the case.

Re: new zb 50 engine

THe lighting coil from your ZB will mount directly on a Lifan 150 or any of those knockoff motors for sure. Also, some of the Lifan 150s come with the smaller, daytona style outer rotor that WILL run lights. Some do not, some do. Look for the yellow wire coming out. It is a low 25W system but would work fine if you went to the battery first and ran the lights from the battery.
