RySem's ZB50

I scored a deal of a lifetime as far as I'm concerned today. I got a project ZB with a box-o-parts for $150. Included in this box-o-parts was a brand new OEM Honda carb and intake assembly as well as brand new, presumably OEM Honda cylinder, piston, and rings. These are parts that I coincidentally was just about ready to order for my Z50RD...SCORE! I'm really excited about this bike, as one of my biggest regrets was selling my old ZB. I bought it in pieces back when I was 13 or 14 and got it together and running, only to sell it for a few bucks.

Now, the new ZB: It is certainly a project bike. Supposedly taken apart by a couple of kids years back and saved by the guy I bought it from as it was on its way to the dump. Tank has one dent in it, but has the gas cap with the key. Frame looks nice, wheels look pretty good. The engine is partially disassembled. The swingarm is toast as with many ZB's...certainly the weak link. In the box of parts is a mint stock exhaust, air box, rear rack, and a few other bits and pieces. I will probably be selling off a pile of the stock parts, as I don't plan to build this bike as a stocker, so if anyone needs anything lemme know. I really need to get back to work on the CT70 project, but will post up if I get anywhere with this one or if I at least gather some parts.

Yeah, I'm done now though (haha...until the next one!). I just sold your old XR50 roller, Jeanette. That had to go to make room for the ZB!

Re: RySem's ZB50

Sometimes I hate this mini-sickness...I just buy the ZB, tear it down, and stuff it in the corner for a down-the-road project, now I have all sorts of NSR goodies on the way and a drained bank account.

How much are you looking to get for them? I just bought some white 3 spokes for way more than they are worth. lol.

Looks like you have quite the projects. If you need a nice aluminum sprocket I have a sprocket specialties NSR 47t sprocket NIB I need to get rid of. I am really looking to trade for a 28-32T aluminum sprocket. Too bad you don't have the CT70 done. I need someone to ride with. Do you know anyone with an XL75?

Dunno anyone with an XL75...cool bikes though. There was one I think in NY a couple months ago that I thought about picking up. You should do one of the XR100 bore-up engines in one of those!

Re: RySem's ZB50

Exactly my plan, I will throw my CR85 Renthal Bars from my old XR100, Over swing arm, 365mm shocks, NSR forks, and NSR front brake setup on a vintage XL75 with the 115cc motor I am using to mock up my zb right now. The ZB is getting a big motor so I can keep up with you.....

Re: RySem's ZB50

Coming soon: Picking up right where mikev left off. I will be getting an NSR swingarm, front end, brakes, and wheels. It seems as though this bike may come together quicker than anticipated. I'm toying with the idea of putting the Takegawa 106-R engine that I built for my CT in this and buying or building something else for the CT.

I saw an NSR50 engine on ebay, that would look nice in a zb.

Re: RySem's ZB50

That was my son's bike, it was stolen while he was having his heart transplant 6 months ago. I hope you enjoy it as much as he would have....

j/k - sweeeeet deal dude! It's nice to hear about a true "find" especially with all the scams out there.

Now hand it over: )

That's the motor I am running in my ZB these days. 5 speed Takegawa transmission.

My engine is 5spd Takegawa as well. R-stage 106 stroker. It's no superhead but it should get the job done well enough for now! How do you like the 5spd? Do you kick or bump start it? I've heard many tell me that kick starting wrecks 1st gear potentially. I gotta find me one of those ZB flywheel covers. This is my 2nd ZB and neither came with the stock cover!

I love the 5 speed. I always bump start it. Just something you have to get used to.Z.... I bought your side cover and bolts a while back for $20.

Re: RySem's ZB50

Isn't the normal +R head basically an XR70 head with roller rockers and maybe larger valves? What motor goes in the CT if you run the 106+R in the ZB? Drop a Lifan 150 in the ZB and call it a day.

Isn't the cover above a monkey r stator cover? I have a zb one sitting here, but I will probably just keep it on the zb motor. For some reason it won't fit on the motor that is in my ZB now?
