| ShapeShifter's ZB/Monkey R Mutant Hybird
I will post pics and info of my newest mini here. The Mutant will arrive at my house this Thursday. I will give a full report after I un-crate it and give it a thorough physical exam (cough please) ![]() So I bought this motor for the Mutant from a very cool guy who gave me a killer deal! It is the older Takegawa 124cc Super Head and supposedly has 10 minutes of run time. It has a giant Mikuni 26mm carb. I will need a different manifold to fit the Mutant. Can anyone tell me what intake manifold will work in a ZB with this carb? ![]() ![]() . Big ass carb. ![]() . He also gave me a post-apocalyptic Takegawa 5 speed transmission that he grenaded within the first 10 minutes by simply starting the thing. I guess this proves the 5 speed bump start theory. Anyone know if I can buy just the gears for this gear train? |

Find out what 5 speed gearbox that is. Takegawa makes numerous. Intake isn't a problem. You can go two routes. You can get one of those 12 way adapters and run the current intake, or go the Takegawa intake route. Drop me a note on both. |

The package arrives ![]() About 10 screws into the un-crating job my cordless drill dies ![]() Anxious first look in the Ark...... The manilia folder held the title, MN plate, a 88 ZB50 shop manual, and 6 (yes 6) Honda keys. ![]() My Monkey is wrapped in swaddling clothes. Just like baby Jesus! ![]() Jeremy really did an excellent job crating the thing up. ![]() Out in the fresh 100 degree California air. Not a scratch on her. ![]() I literally just rolled it out of the box and took a picture. No wiping or dusting off. ![]() It is just ridiculously clean. ![]() It's as if it has been kept in a hermetically sealed bubble. ![]() Every screw or bolt I have seen thus far has been a Honda part with the proper "8" stamped on it. Except these socket heads on the brakes. I need to replace them with stainless. ![]() ![]() It's hard to see in this picture but the carb is crammed off to the side and the air-filter is caddywompus. I don't know what is in those fuel lines but it won't combust. ![]() I am pleased. The bike is too clean to ride. I am truly not worthy because the only work I did myself on this bke to was un-crate it. I think I'll build up the ZB instead |

Sweet ride! If you want rid of that manifold, I have a need for one. I have an extra 12-way adapter with stainless hardware, if you need one.

| Re: ShapeShifter's ZB/Monkey R Mutant Hybird Ride it??!! Are you insane? I'm going to build a shrine for it in my living room. In a climate controlled enclosure. .... Actually once I get the fuel issue worked out I might take it on a sterilized street as long as someone follows me with a cordless Dust Buster and a box of Swiffers. Hopefully tomorrow. |

My Mood: | Re: ShapeShifter's ZB/Monkey R Mutant Hybird that is a sweet ride and you are right it must be kept in imaculate condition but then if you don't ride on a regular (daily) basis it will be very angry at you. I figure the R actually stands for Rage.,Oh to add to the list of the person following you with the cordless dust buster and box of swiffers, brass poles with red velvet rope strung between them just incase you decide to stop for coffee or somthing, can't have anyone fogging up that paint with there unsanitary breathing. |

| Help with Nissen Brakes?
As I roll it around the front yard, the front brakes make a lot of noise. Usually a slight friction sound is normal, but this was bad metal to metal noise. Jeremy sent in the packet two front brake seals because he said the brake line is empty and it had not been used for riding. I took the calipers off to see about replacing the seals and found the cause of the metal to metal noise. As far as I can tell, these are the parts that are supposed to fit on these forks. There are no crazy shims or spcers anywhere in the lineup. Has anyone seen this? How about you NSR guys? What canI do about this? |

Enjoy the newness for now. Once it wears off ride it it and enjoy it then. I agree with the others... That is one clean bike. Looks like the caliper was ground down to fit but not enough and still rubs slightly. |

Well it is officially mine now. I pondered the front wheel set-up and there was absolutely nothing out of place. Ernesto, the only thing that was grinding was the disk on the caliper mount. After disassembling the brake completely it became clear that no one has ever ridden this bike with these brakes on the front. I decided the only thing to do was get medieval on it. I did the math and then took .056" off the inside of the brake mounts on the forks. Of course, it's perfect now. I rode it finally at 7:50 tonite with only the rear brake. I learned my lesson about being too anxious to ride a project without a front brake, so I wore shoes this time. I changed the oil and adjusted the valves today. Ir runs and idles smooth but it needs jetting work. It also is not street worthy because of the lights. They all come on, but the flashers only stay on solid, there is no brake light, and no horn. So I will be making this even more mine as I dig into the wireing and fill the front brake system with fluid. .056" is all it took. | |
