| ZB50 Jedi | Stock ZB seat with rear cowl - you decide
i purchased this rear cowl from BMS and it is made to fit the stock ZB seat. I put it on one of my ZB's for a test fit and this is how it looked. So if you decide to buy one be prepared to add foam to the stock seat to make it fit like nice. tmas ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

From the looks of those pictures, I wouldn't be running one of those on my bike. Even if it did fit right, the finish and weave of the carbon fiber does not look good. Did you make the bracket or did it come with those crappy looking welds? I love the look of cowls in pictures, but when it comes to ride the bike, the cowls need to be on the shelf. The Jetstream cowls fit correctly on a Monkey R seat, but still aren't practical. That stinks for you. |

It looks like the twill is pretty messed up by the area he added so it would fit a zb. Is the rest of the twill looking alright? Could you move the cowl forward a little bit so it fits a little better?

looks nasty, especially with that bolt sticking out the top of the cowl. i guess they only do look good in pics,up close in person looks like a butcher job.now i know why you were cautious about a zb fiberglass tank |

Hey Tmas, do you have access to a scale that can weigh that tail piece. Just curious if it actually weighs less then the jetstream one as it looks like there was a ton of resin and clear used. I'm making a guess that it actually weighs more then the original that it was copied off of. As for the fit it doesn't seem to fit the stock ZB seat all that well. I think to get that to work you would need to add some material to your seat and recover. That and paint the cowl as the weave layup is pretty bad in the bridged area. I guess you could add some sort of foam pad over that area to cover it up. B |

Has anyone been hearing what i have been saying for the past six months.........Caveat Emptor .. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caveat_emptor Just wait the "Orlando Posse" will show up and say the pictures are lying, I am just a dick and Shaun Bassett is the "KING OF CARBON FIBER FABRICATION" Go over to the NSR forum and take a look at REPSOLNSR'S front fender it is crap.........A real abortion.... "As for the fit it doesn't seem to fit the stock ZB seat all that well." And Brad you missed your calling,You should have been a Diplomat. Last edited by NCNSR; 08-31-2009 at 07:47 PM. |

The thing I don't like is the one mounting position by the back of the seat. I am worried it will take a 70 mph flight off the back of the bike or crack at the top mount. tmas

Thanks tmas...I was going to order one of those, but the fit just isn't good enough for me. I agree with everyone else, that one spot where the twill is messed up on the front would drive me nuts. I will move forward with my plan of making my own. I have access to a ABS plastic 3D printer, so all I will need to do is make a good CAD model.

I tried to contact BMS Corporate Headquaters in Orlando to clear this up and was informed by a Spokesperson via sattelite phone that a recent hurricane in florida had damaged there Headquaters........(As you can see the damage to there main production facility was extensive) Last edited by NCNSR; 09-01-2009 at 10:08 PM. |

yes i did make a carbon tail cowl a year or two back for my ZB. I also made a Fiber glass mounting bracket so there is no bolt sticking through the top like the jetstream design. Mine weighs half the original jet stream cowl i copied it from and has no mounts showing. I also didn't make it with the mind set of reselling it, just for my own consumption thus i took my sweet time making the mold and the piece it self and used as little resin as possible in the production and zero clear. I know i know there should be a UV clear on carbon but i havent done it yet as the finish didnt really need it. Here is the write up on how the process goes. http://honda50.com/?p=191 Last edited by reynolds_brad; 09-03-2009 at 10:09 PM.

![]() He was not impressed with the quality of it at all. It weighs 225 grams = 8 oz = .49 of a pound. (metric converted for shapeshifter). tmas

That is down right hilarious, and somewhat what i expected. Its actually more heavy then the stock jetstream fiberglass gel coated tail section. If BMS used the proper method it should have ended up around 100g. Last edited by reynolds_brad; 09-04-2009 at 01:16 PM.

I have a carbon fiber front fender I got from MotoshopZ.$150... Real nice fender, I love the quality. When you put it beside the BMS cowl you can see the poor quality CF job. Lots of Blemishes all over. tmas |
