Re: Zb 50 motor upgrade

stay away from the 150 motors with the klx head like the gpx or ogm because it will hit the stock front wheel. i found out the hard way. the new lifan 150 with the crf head seem like it might work.

What is your motor budget? I would keep that ZB all Honda because of how rare it is.The bike is worth more with the original engine in it.

Re: Zb 50 motor upgrade

Tmas, thanks for replying, but see im only seventeen and i got this bike for fifty bucks from some guy and i completely ripped it apart had everything powder coated and im putting it back together one paycheck at a time so as far as my budget goes probably looking to spend not much more the a couple hundred on the motor, ide like to do up the ZB motor, but it looks like its gonna be much more expensive then just slapping in a bigger pit bike motor. But im really not sure where i can get the most bang for my buck so im open for any suggestions.

Re: Zb 50 motor upgrade

tmas is right about keeping the stock motor if you already have all of the parts for the motor. if you have a lot of the parts missing from the stock motor like i do. i just got a gpx to get me down the road and box the stock one up to rebuild later. but, if you have most of the motor and it is in good shape then go with it. you can always add power to it later on if needed.

88cc Big Bore kit keeping the stock head. You'll rejet the stock carb.

The ZB50 takes the same top end engine parts as the Honda CRF50.

Re: Zb 50 motor upgrade

I will sell you a takegawa 88cc ftp kit for a good price if you want to go in that direction. The xr70 carb and intake manifold are almost identical to the zb50 ones, except the zb50 carb is only 13mm. The rest of the engine is basically an xr50 motor.

A TRX90 or CRF70 head to go with that 88 kit adds some oats, and keeps it more Honda.

Re: Zb 50 motor upgrade

My 85cc w/ xr70 head, carb, exhaust, and 4 speed does 55-56mph on flat ground but I'm not sure of power. The bike is pretty heavy too.

Yes it will, the ZB is a 12 volt cdi motor like the crf and xr.
