ZB/Monkey R on Ebay

This ZB was changed into a Monkey R. He did a very nice job. Wonder what the reserve is set at.

Joan knows her way around the vintage bikes and it won't be going cheap. My guess is north of $3K.

I can see that. I like the yellow hardtail in the back of this pic. Not a big fan of the Monkey R back fender.

Re: ZB/Monkey R on Ebay

That is one clean bike. Hopefully it sells for well over 3g's. The whole bike is basically brand new.

And the picture frames seem to sit a little too low on the wall.

Re: ZB/Monkey R on Ebay

Here's my take on that bike. It's very nicely done and my hat goes off to the builder.

However, if you are going to go through all of that trouble finding all of those hard to find NOS parts, I would have found and installed the Monkey R's close ratio 4 speed (unique to the Monkey R and not any other Honda mini made),the black manual clutch and the Monkey R left clamshell and would have not left the ZB50 3 speed semi auto in that bike. The clutch and gearbox parts are not hard to come by and would make that bike much more enjoyable to ride and completed the conversion.

The frame holes are filled in and great care was done to build up that bike, but the engine needed to be coverted as well.

It would possibly be less work to source a complete JDM Monkey 4 speed motor and do the whole swap, too.

Z....I have a JDM Monkey R speedometer and it has a speed warning light.
Any idea what controls the light or what the story is behind it?

Todd ~ Valid question. There is a small control box that wires into the speedo triggering voltage at 30 KM/H that goes to the warning lamp so it illuminates at 30 KM/H. I have one on my monkey but disconnected it as I find it annoying having it lit all the time.

Laws specific to 49cc scooters/bikes in Japan:

1. Absolutely no passengers allowed.

2. Maximum speed is 30km/h on any road.

3. You cannot turn right at any traffic lights that has more than two lanes, or if it has a right feeder green arrow.

4. Many overpasses (flyovers) at busy intersections do not permit scooters. you must watch out for the sign posted right by the damn thing.

Z... Thanks for the great information. 30 km = 18-20 mph. that is a very low maximum speed.

Re: ZB/Monkey R on Ebay

The reserve price was lowered. This is one of very few zb's I feel is really worth around 4g's. Monkey r clam shell, wiring, and some sort or 4 or 5 speed with a bigger crank would really finish the bike off nicely.

Anybody know about that taillight/signal/plate mount piece? Stock ZB/Monkey R? It doesn't look plastic.

It's an obsolete Monkey R piece.
