Hi, my name is Dave and this is the first time using a forum (hopefully this works). I am obviously new here and new to the mini world. I am currently rebuilding my first mini bike a 1970 Honda CT70 from the floor up. I have all new parts and should have bike back from powder coating tomorrow. The only thing left I need is a big motor. I am currently interested in a GPX 160cc motor, but would like bigger if possible. I plan on riding this daily to work on fair weather so I would like a application that is big, reliable, runs on pump 91, and is not something that is 'time serviced'. Please any guidance and or advice would be appreciated. |

I run a GPX160 modified out to a 177v2 setup in my ct. Fitment requires that you ditch the chrome crash bars, drop the footpegs about 3/4", and grind the lip on the swingarm. Of course you will need ti rewire the whole system for 12v, install a CDI, 12v battery, 12v bulbs all around, real rectifier, etc. For that setup, I am geared at 17/29 running 120/90-10" tires and will top out at 85mph coupled with a mikuni vm26 carb and large exhaust. Better upgrade your brakes, suspension, and handlebars if you want to live to tell about it. Also fit yourself an aux gas tank or you'll only get 35 miles or so to a tank...don't forget the tank only holds .67 gallons total.

Thanks man! What site is the best deal to get these motors? Also, what do you think about the GPX 160cc with the 184cc big bore kit, V2 race head and 28 mm carb? I am interested to know more on your auxiliary tank too.

Fatcaat, How long have you had your motor set-up? Do you ride your CT much with this set-up? Any issues etc.? |

There are a lot of vendors out there that can provide this setup to you. Check the vendor listings. You can order it as a 184 like that or even a 192 or make the mods yourself. I have approximately 1000 miles on my CT setup and 1300 on my pitster setup (same motor) and have had no issues at this point. However, a 184 or 192 isn't going to make you any faster than the 177 because you run into gearing issues. The highest you can go without making other mods to your drivetrain is 17/29 on gearing. If you mod the engine case a bit, you can stick an 18 up front . If you mod the rear hub you can put a 28 on the back. Power is not the problem on my bike...gearing is. As for the aux gas tank...I have a solid stainless tank on this bike from daxdodo.com. On another bike I have a gcraft version. I am also fabbing up a 2.5 gallon tank to put on the rear rack for longer excursions. Right now, I carry a 1.5 gallon tank back there that I stop and add fuel to the tanks. My new setup will have a line directly into the fuel setup instead. |

There aren't too many vendors who will install the performance upgrades, test and warranty the motor. I will http://www.planetminis.com/f17/firep...rs-130469.html Like the 'caaat said, though, you'll need to work on fuel capacity, delivery rate, and gearing to get the most from a bruiser.

How is the reliability for this 192 in a street application for daily rider pumping 91 octane? Will this fit in a CT70 frame?

I bought duel pipes from ***************** for this bike too. Is it safe for me to assume that these pipes will fit on any of these after-market motor assemblies?

No reason to think it would be less reliable than a regular 160, and likely more-so due to the additional steps taken during assembly. The full-skirt piston, steel sleeve, correct torque specs, etc add up to a solid engine. Street use isn't going to be as rough on the mill as a MX'er, either. There is an overbore left in the jug once it needs freshened.

Your pipes would either require an adapter, or you'd just have to spec a Honda-port head when you order your motor. I carry both versions.

BTW, Most of the motors I have aren't on my site. I rarely pull an unopened box from the shelf and send it to a customer. We do custom and semi-custom builds for the most part.

Alright Firepower 354, you have my ear. Please give me all the details to include price quote on this 192cc motor. I am assuming I will need a bigger carb, please give details and quote on this as well. How savvy do I need to be to throw all this stuff together in the stock CT70? I have a couple of buddies with mod CT70's that extended foot pegs and shave off the swing arm as well. The biggest motor in the bunch is a stock GPX 160cc. I have also been told to stay away from YX motors. Anyways, I am looking to do some good business for a power-train as long as I receive good business. Obviously I have much to learn about the mini world, but I catch on quickly. I just need to make the wisest and most economical choice for my CT70. This is the last piece of my puzzle before I start my complete reassembly. I am hunting for the right power train and deal ASAP. |

A fully assembled 192 with a 28mm carb and the new TB manifold, mild porting, piston squirter, timing mod, and a remote oil filter starts at $900. Adding the "Daytona style" clutch cover with integral filter adds $150. V2 head, Tak covers, etc all are available. ![]() Quote:

Does this motor need a oil cooler too? This is mildly ported. Polished too? What is the maintenance like on this motor? How much for the V2 race head? What are the perks? Please tell me the pro's on "Daytona style" clutch cover with integral filter.

Polishing is for apples V2 head adds $275, increases airflow and thus horsepower. Cool clutch cover allows easier servicing, integral filter housing, and is much narrower than the regular or even the Tak ones.
