My Mood: | Newb
Hello PM. My name's Alex, I'm a friend of Paul's (YamahaSean, just joined as well) and a newb not only to this site but the pit bike scene in general. I too am an Ohioan, Ohio native as a matter of fact. Big into the car scene with a few turbo 6-cylinder Toyotas, but I digress. I recently bought a New Star 110cc 4-stroke bike, just your ordinary run-of-the-mill China bay bike. Here's the bike after its first day of use under my ownership: ![]() To make a long story short, the weld in the middle of the frame broke, tacked that back together, and on the test ride (dark out, was going to load the bike up in the bed of my truck and leave afterwards), I took a wrong turn and smacked into a small cement wall. I went flying, somehow dodging landing on some pieces of rusty rebar coming out of the ground and managing to not break my phone upon coming back to earth. Newton and gravity > me. I got VERY lucky (wasn't wearing a helmet since it was just a test ride) and learned my lesson. I managed to escape this wreck with only a messed up wrist (soft tissue bruising according to the doctor, still hurts but I'm happy I'm not brain damaged) and a good story to tell. The bike has also had a miraculous recovery. Luckily I have a friend who has the knowledge and skills to rebuild the bike. The frame was severely tweaked and required some serious surgery. The main tube of the frame is now constructed of thick, strong, and durable roll cage tubing. While it's not 100% the way it was before, it is still in better condition than I could ever imagine after taking such a catastrophic hit like that. I learned my lesson from this experience, and I have a Bell helmet that I ride with at all times now. I'll have to get some updated pictures of the bike for you all in the next day or two. In the short time that I've had this bike, I've discovered a passion for riding that I didn't know existed before. While I am still a newb to riding as stated above, I am learning how to handle this bike and having one hell of a good time doing so. I look forward to dismantling my bike this winter for a proper restoration of sorts. Please, let me know if you have any questions for me, and feel free to make fun of me for turning myself into a budget version of Evel Knievel. |

That's a prime example why you try to stay away from stationary objects while on your bike. I was in the middle-top of 4th gear when I took my spill.

I sure am lucky. I must have a few screws loose, because no matter how many times I thought of the consequences of what could have happened, I would start to laugh when I pictured myself flying through the air and all I wanted to do was ride again. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again I guess. |

From the looks of the pic, not only is your frame "tweaked", but it appears your front rim may have a slight tweak as well, lol. Welcome to PM |
