| crf150rb or crf230f?
I am getting a new bike and I was gonna get the 150rb until the sales man told my dad how the 230 may be a better bike for me. I don't race all i do is trail riding. if I did race I would do harescrambles. I don't want the 230 because I am small and it is a 250lb tank. Plus who wouldn't want a 150r? I was wondering if anyone had any advice on what would be better for me.

If you trail ride only, the 230 is a killer bike. My dad's got one and its super fun to screw around on.

Yo, BigMommasJammies, don't buy a race bike for trail riding. Maybe look at CRF150F, KLX140? Tons of hop-ups available, and less tank-like.

I didn't want a 150f or a klx 140 because i think I will out grow it too fast. but the thing is I'm very skinning for being 14 yrs old. i weigh 100lbs soaking wet and I don't know if i can man handle the 230 through the trails.

No, you likely can't wrestle a 230 around very well. You could have fun, but would be over your head any time you had to maneuver. BTW, I'm 43 years old, 6'2 290 and haven't "outgrown" my 50's and XR75's

I ride with people that have 250 and 450 race bikes and they do fine through the trails.

I go faster in the woods on a KDX200 than my KX500 or KTM620. Once we hit the fire-roads, the story changes I'm just saying, 100lb kid on a 250lb couch is gonna have issues in the tight stuff. I stuck my 620 90% of the way up a 200' ravine and stalled it. Took an hour to turn it around and bull back down. I would have traded that 60HP pig for a clapped out XR100. When I was 14, I got a new YZ465. Went "fine" like your buddies, but slower than on a bike more suited for it. But I knew everything...

Idunno, it depends. Trails as in narrow paths in the middle of the woods or wide open desert with hillclimbs and sand? I use to trail ride both 150F and R. The 150F is an all around great bike that is just soo fun to hold wide open and just screw arond on while the 150R is great for free riding, hittin some lips and steep hills and just revvin the piss out through the sand.

for your size dont get the 230f I would concider the klx140L or the crf150f (personally id take the klx140L since its got full disc brakes and a better rear shock) I have an 05 kx250 2 stroke that I used to ride all the time well I just picked up an 09 klx140l and I can go faster through more **** and be waaay less tired at the end of the day when it comes to bush riding. I have no problem keeping up and even doing better than any of my friends on their big 450's and 250's |

You have to be smart and look at the big picture. A CRF150r or CRF150f would be a good choice. The 150f will be slower than the 150r but it will be a lot less maintaince/repairs. It can also be modded to be faster. The 150r on the other hand with a flywheel weight would be an awsome harescramble/trail bike.

If you got the 230 it would probably be way too heavy for you because of your size

when i was 16 I had a new TTR225 that weighed like 235'ish? i think i only weighed 125 and had a heck of a time doing tight stuff with it. the bike was just really top heavy to me, once it started to tip there was nothing i could do to stop it. i'd vote for the kawi 140 for you man, you'll have more fun and less battling the bike on the trail.

yeah but the key words there are "top, riders" Im sure Mr. Knight could get on a klx110 and still beat 99% of us on our big bikes in the woods |

A crf150RB with a crf230 motor swap would a good trail machine that you would not likely outgrow, not mention the 6spd for street legal duty when you turn 16 would be cool | |
