Looking For 150R Suspension Advice

Recently picked up a 2007 150R. Plan to ride it with my kids - private moto tracks, trail riding, maybe a little supermoto. I weigh 170 and stock suspension is soft. We run BBR springs in our 150F's and I see they make them for 150R's but is this the best way to go? I don't want to lay out $1000 for full race suspension mods but don't want to throw money away either - any suggestions/sources you've used for spring or mod work?

Re: Looking For 150R Suspension Advice

I'm a vet rider on a 150F and my buddy has a 150R. He weighs about 200. He put the BBR stiffer front fork springs in and rear shock spring on. He ordered the stiff forks springs but they really could be stiffer. We were wondering if they shipped the wrong ones. The stiffer springs from BBR for my 150F made a huge difference. I couldn't use the front brake with the standard springs installed - way too soft. The 150R stiffer rear spring seems better - but again - it could be a little stiffer as well. We race a little and ride on practice tracks pretty hard, so we push the suspension pretty good.

For the money the stiffer springs are probably the least expensive method for improvement. You could probably put thicker fork oil in as well to help slow down the compression rate on the forks.

We are the same weight, I just ordered a set of Factory Connection springs for the front and rear. The front I got .40 springs and for the rear I got 5.8 spring. I'm just using this bike as a play bike so I'm not going crazy on it. I might change out to a havier fork oil while it's apart. I'm not sure but I think the BBR springs are not going to be stiff enough that's why I just got the Factory Connection springs.

Re: Looking For 150R Suspension Advice

Thanks for the advice. I may go with the Factory Connection springs. I too use the BBR's on my 150F and they do the trick, I just want to make the most of the more adjustable suspension on the 150R.

Curious, has anyone put higher and/or fat bars on their 150R? I am thinking of going to bar mount converter blocks and taller fat bars but am a little concerned about cable length, particularly brake and clutch.
