My Mood: | Moosehunter's "Teaser"... Phase 1
Some of you most likely remember my "Teaser" thread... LOL!!! Sorry about that one... Anywho... Here's the completed "phase 1" of the '05 CRF150F "street tard" project.... ![]() ![]() Fairly typical mods... CR85 suspension front and rear... BTW... Odi from FEAL Suspension did a OUTSTANDING job with the revalve and rebuild of the forks and shock!! I'm just a bit shy on the rear spring but my custom twist should be here by friday!! Excel 17" hoops laced to stock hubs... Pilot Power tires. The 2 pot Nissin caliper and 240mm rotor is standard CRF150F equipment... But wait until "phase 2"... Engine is "slightly warmed over"... And I'm not going to "quack like a duck" until I have some dyno print outs for proof... Tonight, I fabbed up a nice aluminum bracket for the plate (Oh yes... She's plated now!!) and cut 3" of fat off that canoe paddle front fender. Phase 2: BIG brakes, chase the "gremlins" out of the engine, finish the rear disk conversion pieces (hopefully) and possibly add the ports for oil cooler lines... So far... Less than $2K into the whole project INCLUDING the initial used bike purchase. All this and throwing money at the RMZ as well... Mark my words... Bikes WILL be the death of my checking account!!!

Under 2****ingK!!! Unreal! Such a nice bike you got there. 150Fs rip! I use to ride one with just a pod filter and a pipe in the desert wide open and they're soo much fun Took it to the streets a few times and.....They just haul ass once tuned properly. If this is just phase one, cant wait to see it all done.

Yep!! Ya gotta LOVE build on the cheap!! So far, it's been a fun project!! A lot more "low tech" than what I'm usually doing. From what I've seen thus far, there's a lot more HP and torque to be found in the lil' 150F's... Ya just gotta know where to look is all... After dealing with a bunch of hi-tech electronic gizmos and doo-dads on the big RMZ, messing around with the "F" bike is almost relaxing!! And the results make it that much more rewarding!!

Wouldn't you be better off running a CR85 hub so you can just buy a 320mm CR85 rotor with the big caliper? Did the CRF150F caliper bracket bolt right to the CR85 forks? Sumo fender and white rear fender would look neat too. What is your current displacement? What size rims and tires are those?

Baja designs makes them. They are expensive, but they work pretty well.

The white fender out front is enough... I thought a white rear would loo good too... Until I tried it!!! DID NOT WORK!!! A bit more than stock... 17's... 110 front, 120 rear... I don't like the profile on either... I may end up going with a bit wider rim on both ends... Don't really know yet...

It's a weird fender design... But it was cheap.

Hey moose, you have a white rear fender for sale? i am doing the conversion for dirt.. Did you do the helicoil yourself for the reger adaptor? What brake line did you use? On the rear shock.. did you do the reger machining or the 230 linkage part? If it is the 230 linkage part, did you redrill another hole in the shock to get it to work right? is that a head breather out of the tappet cover? |

Installing the helicoil for the Reger adaptor is no big deal at all!! Honestly!!! In fact, you don't even need to drill out the holes in the forks! Start the tap very slowly with constant forward pressure, use ctting oil and you'll be golden... GO SLOW!!! It's aluminum ya know!! I have an extra M8-1.25 helicoil kit sitting right here I'd let go for a song and dance... Coils, tap, install tool... The hole shootin' match... PM me here of on TT if you're interested... I think the line I grabbed came off a CR125... But don't quote me on that. I can get you a Honda part number if you need it... This Build is "on the cheap".... So the budget was not there for any other conversions or lnkages... I used the stock 150 linkage and relocated the hole .740" higher up on the clevis, then milled off the excess material. If you choose to go this same route... BE ADVISED: The new hole MUST be perfectly straight and square to the clevis or you will have the bearings bind up and the travel of the swing arm will be jerky. Also... Don't worry about having to thread the "inner" hole on the clevis. I screwed the pooch and shot the bit all the way through both sides... There's still more than enough room for a nut/washer on th other side... but you will need a bit longer bolt... Oh yeah.... That IS a head breather in the front tappet cover!! GOOD EYE!!!

What width rims I mean. 110/120 is a good combo, I wouldn't go much wider. 60hp 125gp bikes run 95/115 if I'm not mistaken and they handle better than pretty much any bike have seen. I don't know my 320 would be bad for trails unless you have some massive rocks. I'm going to be running 19" wheels, dirt track rear tire, street front tire, and a 320 rotor for trails and some supermoto action. 2 strokes aren't aloud at my flat track races anymore.

Very nice bike! Did you need to machine a bit off the clevis to get it to clear the wishbone linkage, or did the lower shock mount relocation prevent any contact? Will you be needing to go to a stiffer shock spring? Any idea what rate? Ron |

The new spring will be in the 6.6 range. My suspension guy says it's a decent match for the "new" forks. Then, when the "arse end" is sitting where it's supposed to be, I'll play with the comp/rebound and see what happens. Most likely both will be completely maxed and the shock will need a bit more attention...

My Mood: | Re: Moosehunter's "Teaser"... Phase 1 .740" is what I came up with when I matched the CR shock with the stocker for length (center to center on the mounting holes) I'm sure you could alter this measurement a bit if you so desired. The excess mateial I removed came off the lower shock clevis after I redrilled the mounting hole. All the linkage parts have not been touched other than a good cleaning.
