New guy at Planet Minis

Hey everybody,

I am new here at Planet Mini. I have searched and not been able to find much information on what I am trying to find. I have a 2004 CRF150F/230 conversion. I am interested in setting the bike up for Supermoto (I am 49 and my boby can't take off road abuse like it used to). Does any one have pics/information on a supermoto setup for a 150F. I am sure the 150R is the bike of choice for a 150cc Supermoto conversion and that is why I am having a hard time finding pics and information on the 150F model. I am looking for rim size/width, tire & spoke, & front fender information. Any info. would be great.

Thanks,
Tech23

I feel your pain. I used to have a ttr90 and I could only find parts for the ttr50 and ttr125. It sucked but you gotta just play around on the internet for hours, and make sure you add any helpful websites to your favorites.

I know what you mean....same boat, no paddle. I am over at Thumper Talk too, and searches have turned up nothing there either. Even here, the mini moto forum is all 12 inch wheel minis, and the mid size bikes are small frame 150's. I have also searched Supermotojunkie.com . It's like these bikes have fallen through the cracks. BBR has Supermoto minis, and even has some accessories for the 150F....but no Supermoto stuff for it.

Thanks...the search continues.

Here's a few older pics of my bike setup for motard.
Excel Rims. 2.5" width rim in the front and a 3.5" for the rear, Buchanan spokes.
Michelin Power Race Tires.

Welcome, Tech23!!!

And welcome to the wonderful world of research!!

At 46 myself... I DO feel your pain!! I've been riding a built DRZ400SM for a while now and buying part for it is even weird... You'd think a factory SM bike would have a ton of aftermarket parts... NOPE! A few vendors, but not the big following like the 450 class bike do...

I've got a few notes on the subject... Drop me an email kneedragger5150@embarmail.com and let's chat a while...

And Mike... The bike looks GREAT!!! VERY GOOD WORK!! Motor done by Coe, by any chance?

dirttrackin280h, Thanks for the info. Nice bike. Can you be more specific. I have never done Supermoto before and really want to try it. So setup is all new to me. The Rear rim is 3.50 x ____? and the Front rim is 2.50 x _____? And specifically what size tires did you fit to the rims? It looks like there is plenty of room for wider rims/tires. It looks like they are laced to the stock hubs am I right? Is yours a 230 conversion like mine too? What gearing are you using? If you go to my profile you can view my photo album...I have the mods listed there if you think I should change something let me know. I have made some minor suspension adjustments...let me know what you think of them for a Supermoto setup. I want to try to make the stock components work a best possible without going the inverted front end route.

I am not sure about this and I will have to look into it before making final decisions on the setup, but I think the local tracks here in AZ are all asphalt with no dirt sections.

Re: New guy at Planet Minis

Moosehunter....Thank you for the welcome.

I have been searching off and on for some time, and only post when absolutely necessary. These 150F's were at one time modified for Supermoto use and that all stopped with the introduction of the 150R. So most of the old posts on the 150F are for some reason unable to open attached pictures and/or lack the information I am searching for.

Thanks for any help, Email sent.....

Dan,

Yes, Coe motor it is That's the guy who you need to be sending your motor too. SUPER guy.

Tech23,

Both front and rear wheels are 17".
Rear tire is 120/70; and front tire is 110/70. Both tires are considered a "front tire".
Yes, the rims are laced to the stock hubs.
Yes, I do have the 230 motor coversion. Thanks to Mike Coe.
Your on Thumpertalk, right? I believe we talked before.
As for gearing...that will all depend on the track(s) you'll be running. I changed my counter sprocket from a stock 13 to a 15, and left my stock 48 in the rear.
I'm sure i would change the rear if I were to be racing the bike.

I will be honest, I am not an expert on supermoto; as I do not have much experience riding it. So I won't be able to tell you the "perfect" setup.

You may want to try Supermoto Junkie - Powered by vBulletin. I know there are many guys on that forum with supermoto 150F's that know more than I do.

You'll definitely want to get full wrap around handguards and axle/peg sliders may be a requirement for the tracks you'll be running.

Thanks for the information, Mike Coe did my conversion as well. Is your conversion stock or modified? I thought that cylinder looked a bit more stout, and a bit taller. Just curious, why a front tire for the rear application, is that all thats available, or just your choice? I am running 15/48 gearing as well. I also feel it needs to be geared taller, out on the road I'm always looking for a 6th gear with the 48.

I have moved a few times in the recent past and I know we talked before, but I don't recall seeing your bike in Supermoto trim. Do you swap wheels or did you commit your stock hubs to a Supermoto wheel setup? Does your 150 have a 230 swingarm or is it the stock 150 part?

At 49 I am no Supermoto expert, just want to try something new, thats not so abusive to my body. The bike is a blast on the roads around my neighborhood and just know with a better tire wheel combo. this bike will keep me smiling. I also feel if I can find cart tracks or all asphalt tracks the suspension won't require expensive upgrades just to go out and have fun.

Thanks for all the tips.

Re: New guy at Planet Minis

He built my motor with a 11.5:1 High Comp. Piston, Webcam, 26mm XR200 Carb., and his HD kicker gears. Basically the same as yours, except yours has a Megacycle cam, right?
The reasoning why the rear tire is labeled "front"... the size 120/70 is still considered a front tire when used on the road bikes. An actual "rear' tire jumps up in size to a 150/60 and on..
I don't believe a tire that size would even fit in the rear.
I have two sets of wheels. The stock set for dirt, and the 17's for motard.
The swingarm is the stock 150 piece.

You don't need to spend the money on 17's, just use the stock 16"/19" and get yourself some street tires.
Back when I raced my XR100 in Supermoto, I used the Bridgestone Trail Wings TW40's. They worked excellent. They are more of a dual-sport tire. I used them for flattrack racing as well. The XR100 was also suited with 16"/19" wheels. I'm sure there are better tires out there now that people are using with great results, thus was back in 2002.

Therefore, if you find out supermoto isn't your thing, your not out nothing as if you were to purchase a set of 17's.

I have thought about street tires on the stock wheels. Is there a significant difference in handling and grip with the 17's compared to mounting street rubber to the stock rims? I am fairly certain its supermoto or nothing because I haven't even had the bike in the dirt since my back surgery. It only gets ridden around the streets in my neighborhood. Thats how I get the impression the bike would be ton of fun on a cart track.

I had Mike build mine with stock compression, so its in a mild (stock) state of tune with room for more. Did you buy a wheel set or did you gather the parts and lace/true them yourself. Service Honda offers both front and rear hub assemblys complete with bearings, seals and distance collars for $244.00. I am considering pricing out the rest....Buchanon spoke set and Excel rims, and tires/tubes/ rim straps. Plus like you said axle sliders and hand guards. It would be nice to find a used set of 150F supermoto wheels ready to go. Do you know who makes axle sliders for the 150F?

Re: New guy at Planet Minis

There's a better tire selection when using 17's vs. the stock 16"/19". The 17's make the bike feel very different. The bike turns A LOT quicker, and the front end kind of feels "heavy". It definitely takes some time to get used too.

I purchased my wheels off Ebay about 3 years ago..Ready to go with disk, brake hub, and tires.

Procycle - Honda CRF150F & CRF230F Parts, Performance, & Accessories sells complete wheels for $900. I'm sure they can be had cheaper if you shop around.

There are no known companies that make axle/peg sliders. You will have to come up with your own creation. Most just drill/tap the axles, and run a skateboard wheel. Some have used PVC piping ends.. Back when I ran the bike on pavement, sliders weren't required. I am in need of sliders myself.

www. mrcycles .com sells the front and rear hubs complete for $ 240.30; just a few bucks cheaper than Service Honda.
