| Best gear setup
My son has a 03 xr70 that i just put the 88cc bore kit on. It is running a 13 tooth front sproket right now.. Manual clutch, did the airbox mod, has good muff on it, advanced the timing.. The 88 kit helped alot with torque , not much with speed. what I was wanting to know is what gearing most people are running with this type of setup? I have redone the suspension and all because he is really wanting to ride hard and start riding some tracks. Thanks Mike |

Hobo I tried a 13 on the front of my sons 2001 XR70 and he didnt like it much. When i tried it my self i saw that it really makes the bike a 2 speed transmission. It makes first gear so low as to be unusable. With an 88 kit i would think that extra torque would alow it to pull the taller gearing much better and still leave you the flexibility of all your gears. |

Hobo What size track is he running on? Is it a back yard size track or a larger size track? Super cross style or out door style. Is he getting pretty deep into 3rd gear or not? If he is not getting deep into 3rd gear then yes, you could drop a tooth on the counter shaft sprocket. if its a ssupercross style track then you could prolly go more to get better grint out of the turns and over the jumps. You said your gears as they are set up now is not helping much with speed. Are you looking for more top end? or more acceleration? does the motor sound topped out at the end of the straightaways? One track my son races on has a bunch of short straights but one really long straight so we are running a 15 tooth counter sprocket right now to let him get all of 3rd gear down that long straightaway. I know some others are running steeper gearing and running out of top speed on the long straight but getting much better pull out of alot of the other corners and short straights on the track. there is no one pat answer but i hope this helps.
