Hey guys I am trying to get my cousins bike to run. Its a 2004 crf 70.

I cant find any reason as to why it will not start.

Checked for spark and replaced spark plug thinking maybe the spark was to weak.

Cleaned out carb and jetts. Twice!

Cleaned airfilter. Then tried without it.

I went through all the wiring just for the hell of it.

I checked the timing and valve clearances.

I checked for fuel and messed with the mixture screw

I am completly out of ideas I looked all though the fourms and tried anything that even sounded like it would help. If you have any Ideas thanks.

what does the bike do when u try to start it?

Nothing really. I can hear an occasional poping sound from the intake. If I hold the throttle open it will backfire but it never sounds like it even comes close to starting.

I could not tell you. Do you think its the rings? I was told that one day it just would not start. Worked one day and not the next. I thought it would be an easy fix. lol

thats what i was thinking cause you got fuel u got spark but no compression im guessing so i would take a look at the rings

Yeah I want to fix it for him so I can get him on the track and hooked like the rest of us. Then it will be all over and the build begins. lol

I will pick up some rings and let you guy know if it works.

I would do a compression check on it before you going throwing parts at it.

Make sure that your grounds are good.

Make sure the kill switch is not grounding out.

Check spark with a checker or a meter.

Yeah my compression meter is an hour away so I was hopeing to pull the top end instead because its faster. Anyways I know it has nothing to do with the electrical system, I am an electrician by trade and went through everything with my meter. I compaired the compression with my 110 just by feal and the 70 has very little. Its hard to say though because my 110 is stroked.

Thanks for the help. I will go through all the wires again just to make sure. lol what the hell

timing marks check out flywheel and cam?..maybe it sheared a woodruf key and it is firing out of time.

Yeah both timming marks line up like the should. I looked into the key idea and there is no problems there. I think all I can do is order rings and hope it works.

does it have compression?....plug out and finger over the hole will give you a clue if it does have it or not.

Carbs can cause a lot of aggravation......

Not much it does have a little. Compaired to my 110 it might as well have none.

I think I am screwed put in the new rings and the dumb thing still wont start. It has way more compression but its still dead. Right now I hate 70s.

Am I missing something

last I checked fuel, air, and spark = fire
