Exclamation crf70 tb88 with race head issue

I have a crf70 and have just put on the tb kit with race head. I noticed that my timing is not lining up on the head .... I have everything correct and its showing up right b4 marking or after . Its like it right in between and is making it wrong like it has no ass on bottom but is fast on top........ is there a cam sprocket I was suppose to get with this kit ?????? Thanks for your help

Did you replace the timing chain?

When this happens I always set them below the mark instead of above it.

It CAN"T be way above or way below...it can technically only be a little above or below...each chain link only accounts for about 5 degrees of timing and when you split that above or below the mark we're talking 2.5 degrees.

No, none of my bikes run funny...unless you think 85mph on 10" wheels is funny!

haha thats funny!!!...seriously tho...I know there are 2 types of camshaft sprockets between the China and Honda cams...does it make any difference using the higher tooth count sprocket vice the lower count sprocket (camshaft sprocket that is)

Re: crf70 tb88 with race head issue

The cam sprocket HAS to be twice the number of teeth that are on the crank-mounted drive sprocket, otherwise you'll throw your timing right down the crapper in 1RPM.

Honda is usually 28-14 and the China ones are 32-16

360/28=12.85-ish

Below is advancing the cam, above is retarding it from "correct". 70's seem to wear chains. A replacement is $15 and usually gets you back on-center. Odd deck heights, cut heads, etc will alter it, too.

Is it "more teeth for torque, less for speed"???

Yep, you run the Honda setup for more top end, and the Chinese setup for more low-end grunt...
