xr70 motor

Hey guys motor has started smoking. It needs rebuilt or replaced, I am wanting to do manual clutch so my question is: Would I be better off buying a new motor like a Lifan or something, so it is already manual and like 125cc? Or am I better off rebuilding what I have and adding the 4 speed and manual clutch and 88 kit. What motors are people running and how is the power out of them? I am not a racer but I am a big fan of stupid fast but have too many other toys to going dropping alot of money in the 70. Thanks in advance.

If you have the skills and the tools. Rebuild what you have.

If not buy a crate and stuff it in there.

How old is the motor in question??

REBUILD! not hard at all. Crate motors are worthless and not fun. Unless you buy a good one.

Re: xr70 motor

Either is a great way to go faster.

Adding a 4-speed and manual clutch, 88 kit with the 70 head will run $440. Race head will run another couple hundred.

Or... Drop in and rip.

The motor is a 99. It smokes on start up and then smokes as you ride, the previous owner had cut the spark arrestor out of the pipe. It runs good but still just getting beat by my sons 50. I ride this more than my 4 wheeler and I love this bike so this winter I was gonna hook her up. I have been working on cars and bikes for some time now but didnt know what way to head with the whole motor because as it says above I AM A BIG FAN OF STUPID FAST.....lol

With the 88 kit and manual clutch it will be pretty quick right?

Re: xr70 motor

an 88 kit is a decent amount of power. Add a carb too!

Re: xr70 motor

so I scored a TB manual clutch and a 88kit for the ole XR. I need sprocket suggestions please and I am thinking of buying the TB stroker cam to throw in for that little extra power.
