My Mood: | Can you wheelie a bicycle?
as a kid i loved biking and was great at bmx and jumps but could never ride a good wheelie. i started riding big dirtbikes years ago and never thought about riding a wheelie because i couldnt do it on a bike. now that i got my 50 and learned how to do a good wheelie i thought i would try a wheelie on my mountain bike. i can do it for a bit but still cant actually ride one for a while. just wondering if those of you who wheelie forever on a 50 can do it on a bike. btw i cant ride forever on a 50 either but getting better. |

Same thing here! What's up with that? You'd think "Big piece of hot metal, no wheelies for me." But it's soooo much easier. Weird. Good point too.

ya its really starting to bug me. i have been going out at night for about 1/2 hour trying to get them but damn it soo tiring. its not like your just twisting a throttle anymore. im hoping that its going to help with the 50 wheelies.

It is harder on a dirt bike because of the balance point. When I was 14 I wheelied my mountain bike over 6/10s of a mile. Your legs can deliver a much smoother push than a motor can. A dirt bike has small wheels compared to a bicycle. The larger diameter takes longer to make a revolution making the balance point longer to stabilize.

i guess balancing comes pretty easy to me. i think because ive rode skateboards for years back in the day and bmxing i was always able to manual forever on skateboards and wheelie for a while so wheelies on the 50 are easy for me

Practice on uphills(you don't have to pull up as far to get to the balancing point)and pop it up like you mean to loopout and feather the back brake as needed.

The secret to a wheelie (besides the balance point) is rear brake control. Watch any street bike video or the oppostite, a good mx rider pinning his bike while in the air off a jump to bring the front wheel up. Brakes lower your front wheel, throttle brings your front end up in the air. Same technique for wheelies. |

I could ride 'power' wheelies on my bmx bike when I was younger never had a concept of brake control, so never did a coaster. Recently tried getting on a kids bmx bike, I couldn't wheelie 10 feet. After 5 minutes of practice I remember why I hate bicycles, YOU HAVE TO PEDAL! lol |

6/10ths of a mile? I'm not sure I do a wheelie on ANY of my bikes that ISN'T 6/10ths of a mile I've held wheelies up taking turns through my neighborhood for OVER 5 minutes solid on my 50.. And I've went well over 6 miles on the freeway on my sport bike I don't see how a pedal bike could be smoother power.. A motorcycle at 6,000 rpm is spinning 100 times a SECOND, fireing 50 times a second. You on a pedal bike are 'firing' pushing your legs down for power what, 1-3 times a second? WAY less smooth | |

| Re: Can you wheelie a bicycle? lmfao!!! soooo true homie! i can hang wheelies on my mtn bike!....i think its just as easy besdies the fact u have to pedal!...on a mtn bike im constantly on the back brake! the wheel is 10 times bigger than my 10" 50 wheel so finding the BP is SOOOO EASY!...stay in a low gear!..u can drop the front tire down then just start pedaling and it'll stay up!...if u go back to far, stop pedaling "hand is on the brake" it'll come back down! 50's,dirtbikes,motorcycles are the easyest things to wheelie for me! bigger the tire the easyer to find the BP! |

When I still rode a lot I could manual forever, but I've not rode my bmx bike in a long time...Right now I'd say 10-20ft tops for me...As far as wheelies go, I could wheelie like a mad man when I was younger but when I started getting really into it I learned manuals and left those power wheelies behind.

On bikes I liked to mix it up manual into wheelie and back. It is quite fun, especially manuals while sitting on the seat of a full suspension. Lost my touch and I can only do power wheelies now. Never got a good wheelie on a motorcycle, never tried too much. My 636 was really touchy and I didn't want to bust the front shock seals. |
