FP, is that piston for running an 88 with a stock 50 head, or a 70 head? PS "ttft"= take the figging thing? |

It's for the early 6v, short rod, larger chamber engines, 81-back

What I meant was, can it run with an old-style 50 head, or does it require an old style 70 head? Looks like a lot of squish and a tiny dome in the middle, was why I was asking.

It's made for the early 50 head.

From looking at piston pictures and reading descriptions on the Dr ATV site, I'm under the impression that those big-bore pistons with the little dome in the middle can run with an old 50 chamber or a new 70 chamber, like, say, the E22 head I still have kicking around from that Chinese 107 I took apart. Think that'd work? Ports'd be bigger, at least... i.e., I'm interested but concerned that I'm ass-backwards on what fits with what. |

I can't swear it will have adequate valve reliefs for a 23/20 head. May have to do some minor notching, if using any more than a stock cam. Dome should provide decent compression. Pin height is +3 compared to 12v stuff, and +1 compared to China 49.5 crank. 1mm spacers available.

Not trying to be tiresome, just trying to learn...these spacers, you're talking between the jug and cases, right? So, if I ran this on a 6V 50cc bottom end, with a 52mm jug, and the E22 head off a China 107cc, I'd need a spacer under the jug to get up to zero deck height at TDC? Where are these spacers available? Thank you. |

No spacer needed for a 6v crank, it's what the piston was made for. I thought you were going with a 49.5 crank, but I think all sorts of odd stuff...

No, no, I did ask you a bunch of stuff about 49.5mm cranks and 69mm jugs and all that but abandoned that avenue since I want to stay with old-school ignition and couldn't find a crank that would let me do that and work with the tall jug. Based on a comment I think you made, which went "Stock head 88 is a turd; barely worth assembling", I'm wondering about using this E22 for the better breathing, with whatever stock Kazuma ATV 110 cam is in there, and this piston you're selling. I do have a stock old 50 head, and am honestly unsure if riding a turd would be fun or not. I can't really visualize what my bike would be like with 39cc more but the same breathing restrictions, or at least the same valves and ports but larger carb/exhaust. Would it run out of breath at 4700 rpm instead of 7900, or whatever? I've never tried to modify valve reliefs before. I wonder if that is worth it or if it makes more sense to get a different piston. That's sort of out of line to ask you, I guess, since you're trying to sell it, not phone in my engine build for me... But I appreciate the info you've passed along. The e22 combo will soundly thrash a stock head 88, even if the compression is a little lower. Some of the 107cc have a dead-flat piston, so it's likely that you'll be fine. Just assemble without rings, gaskets, or valve spring outers and roll it over by hand with the flywheel. A dab of clay or piece of solder ran across the piston top will tell if you're OK.
