| 04 NSR50R sputters at above 8k
I just got an NSR50r from a friend that bought it new and hardly raced it. I have raced it a few times with NO problems. In my last race it started sputtering out half way around the track at high RPMs (8k and above). From that point on I still have the same problem. Everything seems to be good below 8k RPM. I have rejetted up and down with no effect. I have completely rebuild the carb, checked the reed box, checked the rotor/stator area, checked the exhaust and intake gaskets for leaks all looks good. I pulled the CDI out of the rubber band and noticed that the Black epoxy was raised and slitly textured in one small area. The rest of the epoxy is smooth and shiney. I think it might have internal heat damage. Does anyone have some experiance with this type of problem

Read a little further. I am having a similar problem. http://www.planetminis.com/f67/noobi...ns-123473.html As far as the raised epoxy that is normal. I have an NSR50 like that and it runs just fine. The one with the CDI that looks normal is the one I am having problems with. I checked the kill switch, all the grounds and the stator. I am going to change out the coil to see if that helps. Please post the problem if you happen to find it. |

Thanks for the input Johnson05, Can anyone else with a 04 NSR50R confirm that the black epoxy on the CDI unit is NOT smooth and shiney and that there bike runs fine above 8K? I have some experiance with epoxy sealing compound and it usually sets flat (like Jello), Most of the time if it looks raised and textured it come from heat damage from the components inside. This is a new bike to me so I want to make sure this isn't normal before I have to order a part I don't need and wont fix my problem.

Thanks to all for your help. It looks like mine does have some kind of internal heat damage that caused the epoxy to deform. I'll go ahead and order and replace this part. I'll post a follow up if it works so others with this kind of problem can benifit from my trouble shooting.
