Smile 2004 nsr50

Just picked up a nsr50. I believe the stock carb from what I read in the book is a PF70M which I think is a 24MM mikuni. can someone verify that and also tell me an exact fit air filter I can put on the bike. I checked the forum but could not locate a thread that tells an exact fit. Thanks

I don't think most people run air filters. Just like real gp bikes most racers see them as unnecessary.

1 1/2" I.D. angled Uni filters for an XR100 will work perfect. I have them on both our race bikes and I have not noticed any difference in lap times.
What I have noticed is the plugs look a little darker so I dropped to a 108 main to compensate. Could have been the filter or just the abrupt heat change (70*-90*+). I run them with out the red pre filter. The amount of sand and dirt in the carb inlet and on the cases below the carb down right scares me to not run one. Since I put one on my bikes 4 other guys in our club have followed suit and no problems to report.

Re: 2004 nsr50

I'm pretty sure that carb is a 20mm made for Honda, if it is a 2004 model.

I run an airfilter all the time after I saw the amount of debri thrown up into the intake area. This is race track use only. I can't even imagine the amount of crap if it were ridden on a street. Normally the difference in MJ size is one or two depending on the airfilter.

For those that didn't know......

adding an air filter restricts air flow, therefore richens your carb setting, hence darker look plug. To offset the ruduction of air flow, installing a smaller jet (leaner condition) is the correct action (in most cases).
