| arlindsay1992's YSR50 Build Thread
So I'm starting a build thread for my 1988 Yamaha YSR50. I haven't worked on it at all since I picked it up. I bought it for $500. It has carbon reeds, Toomey exhaust, oil pump removed, and a right spring kit. I plan to pretty it up and just basically tune up the motor to get it running good and reliably. After I finish both of those, I'll see what I want to do performance wise. It is street legal as a moped in Virginia so I plan to ride it to work/school etc. I've been buying up parts recently and pretty soon I'll start installing them and updating here. As it sits now. ![]() ![]() |

Fork wipers and seals, brake pads/shoes, TT92 front and rear tire, throttle, clutch lever, brake fluid, key switch, grips, made a kickstand (needs to be welded on), clutch plates and springs, new tranny oil, chain and sprockets, lower shock bushing, and a catch can. I think that's about it so far. I need to buy one of those $40 CNC gas caps on eBay because the lock is screwed up.

If you need any more parts let me know. i have piles of YSR parts I'll never use....I'll sell them all one of these days when I have some free time... I have an awesome project YSR too. triple powder coated frame, wheels, swingarm etc... Perfect tank, painted to match frame. polished side covers and head. only needs tires, bodywork (I have an extra set...), exhaust, and maybe wire harness (cant remember...). Has billet top triple, and gas cap both blue to match the rest of the bike. Let me know. |

Are you going to put lights on it? Good old 6 volt cdi motor... Wasn't 92 the last year YSR? How is the inside of the tank? tmas |

| Re: arlindsay1992's YSR50 Build Thread Not planning on lights, too much hassle, the previous owner hacked all the wiring away because he raced it. switches are broken and wires are snipped flush with the left controls/clutch perch. I believe the newest YSR you could find is a 92, yes. Inside of the tank is splotchy with rust and clean metal. Doesn't look serious.

| Re: arlindsay1992's YSR50 Build Thread I might be interested in the shock depending on price and if he has one of those TCR billet top clamps I might be interested in that too.

So I went through the motor and made sure everything is good to go. The piston looks very good through the intake/exhaust ports so I'm not going to mess with the top end. I replaced the clutch plates and springs and checked the pushrod and bearing which are both fine. I put in new tranny oil of course. I was wrong about the carbon fiber reeds, it has the Boyesen dual stage reeds which I think are fiberglass. So the bike is entirely apart in the garage now. I'm working on painting stuff. I'm stripping the wheels and hubs to paint them black, then I'll start working on the tank and body panels I have which will be white. These are going to be my "track plastics" as they are very beat up. Currently my plan for paint scheme is black wheels/hubs, silver frame/forks/swinger/bars, and white body parts. Here are some pictures to keep you guys happy. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
