Best mod to a stock 04 NSR50R?

So far I haven't done any mod to my stock NSR50R. What mod have you done on yours and what do you think was the best performance improvement part? What mods should be done first or last? Thanks for the help, this is my first NSR.

I'd say get the forks done by Ray or 35Motorsports.com... they both can hook up a stock NSR fork to work GREAT on the track. After that.. if you want to keep your motor stock, I'd get a WRW/Jimco Exhaust for it. Best bang for the buck exhaust, period!

Thanks Brian,
Who is "RAY"? What are some good mods if I don't want to keep the motor stock?

Big Bore Kit,Carb,Pipe,CDI Send the head and cylinder to Billy Wiese at WRW Racing http://wrwracing.com/ 512-470-0442 for some of his magic.

Ray Perez is rjpracing_2004@yahoo.com the NSR Fork guru.........The NSR50 as it comes is vastly under-carbed.........

Re: Best mod to a stock 04 NSR50R?

Yeah both Ray Perez and Reuben Frankenfield ( rub35@aol.com ) can hook up the NSR forks and make them work so much better! After Reuben did the work to mine, I've ran my fastest lap times ever on the track!

Putting a bigger carb on a stock cylinder (we've found out here in Ohio) doesn't work that much better and the lap times prove that. Like NCNSR stated, call Billy Wiese up (great guy and I've done business with him for years now) and have him either bore your stock cylinder or get a Kitaco 63cc kit. Send him your head and have him set match/the squish for the cylinder you are running. His port work is top notch also and really wakes up the bike! Slap a 24mm round slide carb on it, with his pipe, and you'll see HP numbers in the neighborhood of 12HP!

Re: Best mod to a stock 04 NSR50R?

There are several questions you need to answer. First of all what is you budget? You would be amazed at how much stuff is available out of Japan. Next thing is what class are you running in? Is it a spec class, 50cc, or mod 50? There are very cheap things like setting the squish properly and changing to a thicker fork oil. A question for Fireman. I had a 24mm flat slide carb on my first NSR when I got it and it worked awsome. It had the stock cylinder ported and the big six petal reed cage installed with the full Arrow exhaust. Do you think that a bigger carb is still a waste even if you open up the reed cage? I don't think anybody mentioned brakes. A braided line is a must.

Go to page 26 of their catalog. By six petal I mean two three petal reeds. Their catalog is correct. This is not a bolt and go part. You will need a dremel to make it fit or sent it off to them. If it was the end of the season I would take a picture of both reed cages and you will see how much bigger it is.

I know i have the Malossi above and the spacer that go's with it it is wider than the intake and longer (Extends deeper into the cylinder you need to use a spacer and The cylinder needs to be modified) the malossi has a three and three petal arrangement i will post pictures later tonight, some are using the Tassonari v-force and alot in japan of modified CR80 reed valves

(The Malossi is also 2-Three petal reeds)

Re: Best mod to a stock 04 NSR50R?

This is a CF Posh "Big" reed cage and there spacer both since discontinued
i am sure there are gains with the larger reed valves Below is the inside view(Huge compared to stock)

This is another Big reed cage from japan again with the Posh spacer,It is from Jun International. With the frequency they turn up and the prices they command used on Yahoo Japan, I doubt this is a useless mod.(The Jun is about $170.00 USD new)

and another.........

Malossi 46.3mm Pistons/VL-5(Six/Petal) and VL-15 Reed Valves The VL-5 is on the left in all pics, The VL-15 is bigger than the stock NSR50 cage and the VL-5 is wider and longer than both.....

Well, my statement was for a stock cylinder, some port work done to it, running the stock reed cage with CF reeds and the WRW exhaust. The 24mm carb worked.. but the lap times were the same as running a stock carb. It wasn't till after the big bore kit was installed and the lap times went down a lot! I think your setup would require one because you are bringing in more fuel and you would need that extra air.

When I had the two stroke motor in my NSR, I thought about getting that bigger reed cage... how did you like it, did it improve throttle response, top end or low end power? Seems like a sweet mod for sure!

The bike had the big reed cage when I bought it so I'm not sure how much of a difference it makes. I only ran the bike a couple of times and then I put in the 75cc Athena kit. The combination works well and is really not that peaky for a two stroke.
