| Noobie setup questions
I just got a NSR50 with a 63 big bore kit and it has a carb on it like this..... http://www.hondaminitrail.com/gifs/P508.jpg The last owner ran VP U2 for fuel and I just want to run pump gas. Anyone out there running this carb on pump gas. I just want to save myself a million plug chops and find a starting point thats close to what I need. My next question is concerning tire pressures. I ran 22psi and the tires never seem to warm up. Should the tire not warm right up just like on a full size sport bike? |

Where do you live? Jetting can be different depending on where you live. Also, what exhaust is on the bike... that can make a differance also! I live in Ohio... When I had a 63cc kit and Arrow exhaust I ran a 24mm carb and used a 128 and 130 main jet with the needle clip moved up one slot. I think the guys in my club run around a 148 main with the Billy Wiese WRW/Jimco exhaust with the same carb. For the tire pressures... I run 19psi in both front and rear... if it is cold I'll go down to 17/18 but almost always run just 19psin all the time with no problems! TEAM QUAZZYMOTO RACING # 4 |

This is the same thing that is happening to me.... http://www.planetminis.com/f67/nsr50...ing-64222.html The only difference is that I'm running a 125 main and the exhaust is Kitaco. The bike has a Kitaco inner rotor kit, pipe, carb, and big bore kit (as mentioned). Thanks NCNSR. I did a leakdown test, replaced all fluids, cleaned the carbs, gapped the plug but did not check the squish. Slipped my mind for some reason. Fireman 343 thanks for the tire pressures. I searched this before and 21-22 psi was recommended but clearly that is too high. Now as far as the clip goes in the carb you ran second from the top correct? Which is the second leanest position for that needle. Mine is the second from the bottom so that may be my problem. My plug seems to look OK but it just seems to hit a wall at 10000rpm. I will move the needle down one notch and if that helps I'll go down another notch. Thanks again. |

Yeah, from the middle possition on the needle move it up one.. might be 2 or 1 down from the top... I can't remember?? Anyway, you don't need to run race fuel with this kit on, but the last few races I did race with the 63 kit on, I ran a mix of high oct. pump gas and VP race fuel (50/50). Yeah, having the squish set right for the kit will help out a lot!!! Billy Wiese can custom cut your head to match your cylinder for cheap! TEAM QUAZZYMOTO RACING # 4 |

Well its deja vu. I tried everything jetting wise with no success. Even went down to a 120 main. It just runs like crap and hits a roadblock at 10000 rpm. Not sure what the float height is supposed to be. I will replace the plug with a new one and see if that helps. I really don't want to go back to a stock carb with a big bore kit and I really don't want to order up a new mikuni flatslide. Unfortunately the old post with the same symptoms never really identified what he found in the end to be the problem.

Check your timing marks on your stator! I had to advance the timing on my NSR 80 to get it to hit 13,500. Play with it untill you get it to rev past the wall at 10,000. But I run 114 trick race gas and I'm at 11.5-1 on the compression with a PWk 28mm |

I've tried playing with the ignition as well as installing a new plug with the correct gap. I have a Kitaco ignition and it does not really have very good markings for setting the advance properly.

The flat slide is your problem... put a 24mm round slide on there and it will run great! My teammate ran into the SAME problem... sorry I thought you had a round slide carb Yeah, Sudco is where I got mine... I think $110 shipped for one! Very cheap |

You were correct the first time. I have a round slide carb in the bike. I just prefer the Mikuni flat slides.

Well, after what seems an eternity I finally got this baby up and running. The culprit as I figured was the inner rotor kit. What had happened is over time the pickup had vibrated towards the rotor and was actually rubbing at times giving an erratic spark. Once I loosened the mounting screws off and set the gap at thirty thou she fired right up. Of course the jetting is way off now. I changed the pilot jet to one size leaner, set the throttle stop, and set the idle. I'll have to start over on the main but I don't think I'm too far off at a 120 main. I might be able to go up one. Needless to say everything got plenty off locktite....
