NSR conversion ??? CRF based engine

I'm sure this has been discussed somewhere before but the search came up with nothing so here it goes......

I have been reading the threads on the XR100 swaps and want to know if a horizontal CRF 50 based engine has ever been done?

Seems like a better choice with all the power combos from mild to wild and it's a lighter engine. You could easily bolt in a Chinese YX150 and have 12 HP and all the torque you need for less than $400.

Quite a few there was a guy in cali who did it and they actually sell the brackets in japan. The issue is the front wheel hitting the head.........http://img221.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/u...vxcfw20823.jpg

Re: NSR conversion ??? CRF based engine

That could be fixed with a set of 55mm offset triples from G-Craft

Know you see why the XR100 swap is the most popular you dont need a $500.00 dollar triple.............

Aside from the cost of the triple's is it a better swap? I would think so with the engines mass lower in the chassis. Also do the of set triple's give any positive handling effects? Could be a win win if so.

Any links to these builds or video of a completed bike in action?

Thanks Anthony

Additional offset in the clamps will help clear, but I'd think the handling feel would suffer. The offset triples might not be enough to clear a big lump of Chi-luminum down there, either

Stock upright 5 speed trans is a pretty rugged unit, and the 80 version has nicer ratios. Shifts like a Honda...

Also, the upright mill doesn't have that much mass up high. Honda put the fuel tank under the engine and pipes above it, on a GP bike in the 80's, then realized that the bike doesn't swing over to lean at the tires, but at the CG of a bike with rider on board. Tires go out as the bike leans over. So, in the pits, it feels better, but once underway, it evens back out.

Downside is the stock head is pretty lame. There are some good ones out there for it. By the end of sumer, there will be a good flowing, low(er) cost option.

Considering the preponderence of weight stays on the same plane(the crankcase is the majority of the weight of the engine) i dont think that holds water

Re: NSR conversion ??? CRF based engine

There's someone on the board that swapped a 124SE motor in his NSR. He seems to like it. Do a search for his thread
