| nsr50 or ns50r? I am seeking a bit of information. What is the difference between a nsr50 and a ns50r? Also, I would love to get my hands on a couple of RC114, 115, or 116 engines (the absolute most advanced 4cycle engines ever built---two cylinder, double overhead cams-50cc). Can any one help me out or give me a clue of where they can be found? Thanks in advance, ncpipingbob |

Basically these were both race only HRC special editions. They are basically the same bikes except for different suspension, brakes, gearbox ratios, final gearing, plastics and tank, frame, subframe, frame, electronics, wheels, tires, swingarm, etc. |

Do you have any information on the RC114s? really curious to learn about them. EDIT* Just found this site on a bunch of pictures of the motors taken apart Its amazing what honda did back then. Look how tiny the crank and pistons are Actually the pistons arnt to small but the throw of the crank has to be practically nothing. ![]() Heres the link to the site. honda my guess if you could contact the guy who made that site could maybe help you on finding one. I wonder how much one of those would be? $$$$$$ Those were factory race bikes from the 60's and not sure how many ended up in private hands? If you take the CR110 which was the original of the Dream 50 racer a mate who has one didn't part with his despite being offered approximately $30,000. Funny thing is back in the 70's he bought it for about $300 rebuilt the engine and then it sat packed away for 20 odd years. One day he called me as there was a classic day at Donington and the organizers asked if it could be displayed. It did take ages to get it running having been mothballed for so long, but man when it did it was soooooo loud!!! The way it revved it made my Dream 50 seem like a castrated poodle!! But he knows of a ex Honda racer who has his works RC113 or RC114 still and made the trip into the heart of Europe to go check it out! He said it was tucked in the basement, tires flat under a dust cover. .....boy I would have loved to hear that thing when they got it running!!!! | |

Yeah the NSR name gets kinda thrown around a bit with the bigger wheeled NS-1 types. From what I gather looking through the Japanese Honda books I have the original NSR50's are the mini 12" wheel types though the Japanese NS50F might have also got NSR name for the European market as kids would rather want and NSR rather than a NS! I know I did! First I saw of the big wheeled NS50 was in Cycle World Magazine back in 89 or 90 and boy I really wanted one! ![]() Then in 1991 or 93 I think when I got my collection of Japanese motorshow cats the new NS-1 was displayed and boy it was exciting as it had a proper twin spar frame and looked just like Waynes!! This model was sold in Japan and some parts of Europe like Poland. ![]() Not long after the Spanish built version came out which was also called a NS-1. It was available in both 50cc and 75cc versions. ![]() When I finally got my NS-1 "NSR" it was in 1997 just like this one. I ordered through a guy in Japan and when it came in I was slightly disappointed by the twin lights, but it eventually grew on me! ![]() I now have several NS-1 Spanish models which eventually got designated as NSR's. They do look nice, just a shame the paint quality is poor compared to the Japanese NS-1 I had. |
