Bridge / Tunnel for mini track?

EDIT:
I built the tunnel with fiberglass... Read on for details.
Here is a quick pic and vid of me testing the tunnel... bigger jump over coming soon.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CneyOOvTANQ

I am planning on putting in a bridge/tunnel in for my next upgrade to the backyard track...

My question is... what is the best / easiest / cheapest / safest method?

I've seen cargo boxes and drainage pipes but I haven't been able to locate any... I was thinking of building 2... I would like two tunnels (8ft wide x 8ft tall x 24ft long)...

I am thinking of building these with treated 4x4's, brackets, plywood, then wrapping in visqueen plasic before building the dirt up to, over, and around the tunnels...

Whatdya think and/or recommend?

Re: Bridge / Tunnel for mini track?

here is a rough draft of what I'm planning on doing... I'll add more detail but this is a start... there are three lanes going back and forth over the tunnel... i'll update the model to show those in a bit...

And here is the area i'm working with as it stands now... everything is about 5'6" now so things will be going bigger...

looks good! it's just going to cost allot of money for all of that wood.

It sounds like a sick idea but it will cost a good amount of money for this project. Just make sure you build something sturdy and durable enough for the abuse you plan to give it

Re: Bridge / Tunnel for mini track?

the track looks sweet! and i would definatly go with the hard plywood type and reinforce it with 2x4's

I know... that would be ideal... I may have a line on one or two for pretty cheap... we'll see There's a crap load of them out here on the mesa near where I am...

I'm doing the math and running the design past my guy to make sure everything is safe if I go with the wood built route...

Think I can build it strong enough with wood?

no problem man , lots of guys are on board with the 110 cradles too

wood gets expensive too , theres a few places here that have round pipes for jumps and places to cross into the track but not tunnels

Nice looking track. That's going to be so fun!

Are you creating those drawings using Google SketchUp? That's what it looks like to me from what I recall from the time I downloaded it to try it out.

Re: Bridge / Tunnel for mini track?

how about trying to source an old water tank or perhaps a giveaway shed that you could reinforce the roof a little on?
