Mine should stop that and catch the chain. I can still change sprockets easy too. ![]() |

The chain can still pile up between the sprocket and cover, which is where the motor and stator plate damage comes from.

Your gaurd might protect your shoes but it wont help you stator cover at all.

That's an excellent set up. BTW, those Boyseen covers arent any tougher than stockers. Last edited by FastMC; 02-01-2008 at 06:51 PM. |

I have yet to throw a chain on any dirt bike I've ever owned .. ( knock on wood .. Why do so many people have this problem ??? I can come up with 3 diff causes , but I want to hear from the people who's had this happen to them . |

i have had it with just a little rock got in one of the links and threw the chain. my buddy on his modded honda just last weekend landed hard on a jump bending his swingarm pivot bolt, his chain threw and busted into his cases and splatted oil. | |

My Mood: | Re: Why You dont even have to throw the chain to break the case. I picked up some heavy wire (a coat hanger or something) with my chain in the trail and it was enough to lift the chain high on the sprocket and broke the case without ever derailing. The Boyseen covers sit even closer to the chain than others.

I never had a chain come off. Well, actually, one time I only tightened the counter sprocket retainer finger tight. I had it WFO in second gear when the CS sprocket basically fell off the shaft. Nothing broke. Not even the stock uncut ignition cover. I just took the chain off the rear sprocket and rode home Fred Flintstone style. But for most people, I think the chains come off because the swingarms have such a huge attack angle that they need to run them loose so when the swingarm compresses the chain won't break from the tension. |

Very nice. I hope you don't need to go up on your front sprocket any.

Slick "Case Saver". We used to use a similar product on my old Yamahas. The swingarm pivot and countershaft were so far apart that when the wheel travel started increasing in the late 70's, the chains flung off regularly. The clutch pushrod was in front of the sprocket, and made the bike unridable when it all got mushed up. Looks like they're still around for many bikes and quads.

My Mood: | Re: Has the chain ever broke your side cover? That sprocket is a 15t and I think 16t is about as big as you can get on there? I have since built another version that follows the cover like a glove and gives more room for a 16t sprocket. Went riding Sat and Sun and one guys bike destroyed the cover and CDI , he was sure kickin himself as I offered him one on Friday, Now it is high on the parts list when we put his bike back together.
