Leatt vs Aplinestar vs RC Evolution?

Getting a neck brace cause a guy I know killed was while doing some extreme sports (skateboarding) and just want to be safe.

I have ridden with the leatt and don't mind it but it seems to limit my range of looking around alot. So I was wondering if any one has experience and could give some info on any of the following (likes-dislikes)

Leatt Moto GPX- Leatt Moto GPX Club Neck Brace - Dirt Bike Motocross - Motorcycle Superstore

Alpinestars Bionic Neck Support SB- http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...upport-SB.aspx

EVS RC Evolution Race Collar- EVS RC Evolution Race Collar - Dirt Bike Motocross - Motorcycle Superstore

Re: Leatt vs Aplinestar vs RC Evolution?

I have the EVS, I had to take all the shims out but one to get enough movement to look far ahead. After I did that though I had no complaints, I wear it every time I ride no matter what I am riding now.

I rode a few laps with a friends leatt and liked it as well, but I know guys who complain about range of movement on that one as well. I think it just takes a few hours to get used to but well worth it obviously.

I might pick up the new lower priced Astar brace in the next few months though and pass the EVS on to the wifey, it seems to be just a bit better than the EVS one.

I like the leatt a lot, I can hardly tell it's on when I'm riding.

I have the evs and my brother has the leatt. I think the evs is more comfortable and gives you a bigger range of motion. The leatt is pretty restraining. When I ride my big bike I run the evs under my sentinel chest protector and it's like it's not even there, and it's very comfortable just running the brace too.

Alpinestars has a cheaper bionic comming out soon i believe, might be less adjustable kinda like the like the leatt adventure vs the club, think im gonna buy one this spring. i have heard the evs's like to bounce arround, they dont have a very good mount to your body.

That's because the majority of people dont wear it with the straps, which doesn't really make sense. If you wear it with the straps it's fine.

Re: Leatt vs Aplinestar vs RC Evolution?

PLEASE READ!!!!!!!!!!!!! here is my experience with the leatt i was racing and two guys in front of me crashed into each other and i was right behind there and i plowed into them and flipped over the bars and landed on my head throwing all my weight backwards and the back support of the leatt slammed into my back. in result i broke my back. i had 2 compressed vertebrae and was out for 3 painstaking months. i am not the only one who has experienced this my friend who races arenacross overjumped the catapult and crashed and he also broke his back and was out for 10 months. SO I ADVISE DO NOT GET THE LEATT! i now ride with the bionic. i chose this because on the wider back support and the technology that the back support will break away distributing the weight not causing back injuries. i thought that the leatt was comfortable but until i rode with the bionic i had no idea. the bionic is so light and comfortable you dont even know its there, but if you do get the bionic get the A-starp instead of the cheap X-strap that comes with it. the x strap bounces around and the a strap keeps it in place around your waist like the leatt.

Re: Leatt vs Aplinestar vs RC Evolution?

i have the evs and love it. i won't ride without it. the only one i haven't tried is the a stars one, but both the evs and leatt seem to limit my ability to look around a bit. but for me it was a trade off well worth the investment. basically i would just recommend finding a friend with one and trying it out before you drop 400 bones into something that won't work for you

Re: Leatt vs Aplinestar vs RC Evolution?

the main problem i had with the rc evo was it felt like the front piece of the brace would choke me when the brace shifted sometimes(yes i did wear the straps). i had a medium. the small and the large didnt come close to fitting me, so i got the medium and like i said the front peice was just really uncomfortable

whats the diff between the new bionic and the expensive one? adjustability? might be worth the extra $

Re: Leatt vs Aplinestar vs RC Evolution?

I have the EVO unit and it works great for me. I had a kid tell me that he wore a Thor helmet with his and somehow it would get caught up when he turned his head. Well I also have an EVS helmet so everything works fine for me. After reading the tech lit on the leatt and A-star units, their basic design is to transfer the excessive force to the collarbone and possibly snap it, instead of breaking your neck. Whereas the EVO disperses that force over a larger area. That's why it is physically larger. In my opinion, wearing any of the ones offered is better than not wearing one at all....

Re: Leatt vs Aplinestar vs RC Evolution?

I have the Leatt GPX and it is pretty confortable, the only thing I changed was the straps,... because with the ones it brings every time I had a single crash they hit on my ribs and get them all bruised......so now I used the straps like the alpinestars neck brace are.....
