Lousy timing & bad breaks

After much looking around and thinking abut how I was going to upgrade my sons race bike for the upcoming spring season I finally pulled the trigger and ordered a Medina roller around 10:30 saturday morning. I was feeling all happy and kinda smug, chris knew I was looking at upgrading him to maybe a used pitster roller or maybe doing a piece by piece build over the winter, but with the Medina prices on a brand new bike I eventually ruled both of those options out. I was torn between putting the boxes under the christmas tree or putting them out in the garage under a tarp and telling him his brand new bike was here and let him find out it was all in pieces. Any way.................
Around 4:30 that afternoon there is a knock on the front door with the metal door knocker, and I'm like WTF it's mounted kinda high and nobody ever uses that, they either use there hand or ring the bell. I had a kinda premination about it as I walked to the door. I pull the door open and there is Chris standing in the door way crying and holding his arm with all his friends and one of his friends father standing behind him looking all somber. Seems him and all his 10 and 11 yr old friends were playing tackle football in the neighbors yard he got tackled from behind threw his left arm out to break his fall an snapped his forearm 3 inches above the wrist. It was a clean break and displaced up and to the right. it was scary to look at and swollen like crazy.
He is looking at 5 to 6 weeks in a cast and at least 2 or 3 weeks of therapy to rebuild strenth and movement in his arm when the cast comes off.
Hows that for Bad timing & lousy breaks?

ohh thats no good, can put more focus on getting the bike perfect now tho, and it will make him want to get the arm stronger so he can ride it

Thanks guys,
Thought we woiuld be doing lots of riding over the christmas break, I work for the school system so i'm off the whole time he is. Guess we will just spend the time getting the bike really right, and maybe i will take my RM250 to some big bike tracks.

Re: Lousy timing & bad breaks

get him a CTI wrist brace when he's back on the bike. I have a titanium rod and 8 screws in my wrist and that brace helps to stabilize and give me confidence. Just a suggestion. Its fun buying bikes for your kids. I just finished building mine a crf 50 with a tb 88 bigbore and race head. I also, I mean SANTA picked the lucky lil bastard up a 2009 kx 65.

Re: Lousy timing & bad breaks

Stevo, Thanks for the advice. I will look into that for sure. We were back at the Dr's office friday, 6 days after the break and he is happy with the bone alignment. So that makes us happy too .
A brand spanking new KX65 huh? Damm that one lucky kid with one super nice dad!!

Miniguy, The bike should be arriving the 24th according to UPS. So it gonna look like it fell of the back of santa's sled LOL
We should have a good time putting it together I am going to make him my #1 helper for every part of the project so he feels really involved even though he has a broken arm.

I have him walking on the tread mill and he thinks i'm crazy.
Leg strenth is a good idea, i should have him doing knee bends and squats ect. Wait till I spring that on him LOL
