Names I bet you'd never associate with MotoGP

Loncin Racing - World Championship Team MotoGP 125

Yup, Loncin has a 125 MotoGP team. They are fielding their own bike, and in 2008 placed 2 points ahead of Honda in the constructors cup?!

Seeing Loncin's name pop up in my daily MotoGP alerts reminded me that they aren't the only Chinese brand playing in the MotoGP arena... Zongshen also had a factory team on the grid in 2006, running Aprilia 250s. They were working on their own bike, with an 'upside down' 125 two stroke single that looked very promising last year. Dunno what's happened since, I can't seem to find any new news on them but it's neat to not only see the Chinese companies trying, but in Loncin's case actually getting decent success.

Japan had some horrible flops at first. Came around nicely.

You're in danger of aging yourself firepower. Haven't heard anyone speak of Mike the Bike for years and years. Mind you, he retired the year after I was born...

Correct, 2010 the 250 class is replaced with 600 inline fours, and there is talk of further restricting the class to a single spec motor from one supplier...

yeah thats the gayest thing ever. part of the racing is about the enigne builders and design. but in this economy that might solve some problems for the teams

they're not 250s, they're quarter-litres

Loncin managed a 26th and 27th at Qatar, the race was stopped after 4 laps due to rain. 31 riders registered, 30 on the starting grid. Not exactly a spectacular start... but they're doing better than me in MotoGP. :P

If they replace the 125's with 250 four strokes it will still be interesting.
