Re: Oil Thermostats

Matt,

There are some really cool ones out of Japan that take Earl's 6AN Hose.

They open up at 70 degrees celsius.

Takegawa's special clutch thermostats open up at 70 degrees celsius.

70 degrees celsius is 158 degrees F or 343 Kelvin or 56 degree Reamur

Re: Oil Thermostats

Why bother? They warm up pretty fast anyway.

Re: Oil Thermostats

that's what I want to know. Seems pointless to me? Just another thing to cause problems....

Re: Oil Thermostats

if you run an oil cooler from your clutch the thermostat bolt lets the oil go to the head first ,then when the oil gets hot it allows it to flow into the oil cooler.
with out the thermostat bolt oil would flow into your oil cooler first and not your head.am i right Z?

Takegawa special clutch - Yes and no. The takegawa thermostat closes off the oil cooler until the engine temp reads 70 deg. celsius and routes the oil as if you weren't running an oil cooler. Once it hits 70, it opens up the loop to the oil cooler. Either way, oil is still going to the head.

The benefit to the takegawa thermostat is it heats your engine up to operating temp faster. If you don't run one, you are overcooling your engine at start-up with an oil cooler and it will take longer to reach operating temps.

The majority of the damage done to your engine is before it reaches operating temps when the oil is thicker, especially for those of you who run heavier oils.

Re: Oil Thermostats

I am brainstorming my own custom piece and am trying to figure out a filter thermostat arrangement, thanks Z. I want the oil warm enough to flow before having it run the lines of the cooler setup. Most dont know that it can hurt engine components if your TOO cool.
