| Porting with epoxy (J-B weld Epoxy)
I want to port my GPX 150 head. I am planning to use some epoxy. Now I heard J-B weld is good epoxy to make it work. But what other options in epoxy do I have? And where do I buy J-B epoxy? If I use epoxy in my ports, and the head is warming up. The head material will expand, but I don't think the epoxy will expand. How does this work, won't the epoxy crack or com loose? Thanks, Lennart |

Do not use JB weld epoxy to fill the ports. It won't work. One of the companies I use is Joe Mandella Pro shop. Google it and you'll see his stuff. |

It can work but I have found that if you use it on a used head even if you bead blast the port walls, it doesn't stick very well and the chunks can pull away from the port wall. The stuff from Joe Mandella works. I recommend that over JB weld epoxy. |

Ok thanks 'Dood' and Mark. But I can't find Joe Mandella Pro shop. And do you have any recommendations about porting a GPX 150 head, 'Dood'. Or can I send you a pm about that? I thought I want to get a high velocity port, by reducing the intake port by, lets say 20% of the intake valve? Lennart | |

Maybe this guy, dood? Products Joe knows... We used a BUNCH of these guys stuff: ITW Devcon | Two of the most recognized brands in all of industry; Devcon® and Permatex®. Filled the bottom 1/4 of a set of SOHC 427 heads and tunnel ram. About 6lbs of epoxy to gain 30 CFM.

Also, the longer the cure time, the better the epoxy. Sure, 5 min stuff has instant gratification appeal, but it's not as hard and doesn't bond as well as the 24hr stuff.
