Symtoms of bad inner rotor?

My bike idles ok, but when I give it any gas at all, it dies. It's not the carb, because it was working fine the day before. I looked at the inner rotor and nothing was broken. How would I check to see if its not working right, and could it be the timing, even though it was running fine before?

Re: Symtoms of bad inner rotor?

jets could have gotten clogged from residual debris in gas. check if gas line flows freely. check carb vents of any obstruction. check gas cap vent of any obstruction.

Re: Symtoms of bad inner rotor?

I have tried a 22mm mikuni on it and the molkt on this engine (yx140) and on a 125 and both carbs work. I looked at the jets too and they look good. I took the fuel line off the carb and turned the gas on and plenty came out. What is there to check next?

It's hard to check the operation of an IRK. Your best bet is to swap out the whole ignition for a known good one.

BTW Did you wash the bike before you put it away? Possible there is some water trapped in the coil or sparkplug boot???

Re: Symtoms of bad inner rotor?

so even with different carbs on your motor, it did the same thing?

or are you saying you took the carb off this motor and onto a different motor and it was fine?

Re: Symtoms of bad inner rotor?

I haven't washed the bike, its brand new pretty much. I have tried two carbs on this engine and they both act the same, so then I tried these two carbs on a 125 and they worked fine, of course not perfectly jetted though.

Re: Symtoms of bad inner rotor?

Also I'm in the process of putting a normal stator or whatever comes on a normal engine on it, but I don't know how to take the inner rotor off. I already used an air ratchet to take the nut off, but what next?

Re: Symtoms of bad inner rotor?

Check for loose connections everywhere. I had a mildly related issue. After about 7K rpm the bike would backfire and sputter. It was like a rev limiter except it sounded terrible. Turned out that the CDI box didn't like being mounted directly to the frame. I guess the vibration was bad. I wrapped it with a crap load a rubber bands like a rubber band ball and now it's fine.

Re: Symtoms of bad inner rotor?

Alright guys I took the IRK off and put a normal one on and it works!! and thanks arlindsay for the advice, I wrapped it up with some electrical tape and mounted it with two zip ties instead of directly to the frame.
