TB117 vs YX150

How comparable would a TB117 be to a YX150?

Would the YX walk all over the 117

Reliability of the YX vs 117

I'm a real fan of Honda motors but the price of a YX150 can't be beat

Give me your opinions on either one

Thanks

Re: TB117 vs YX150

What clutch/tranny would be in the tb117?

The tb has alot of top end power. Thats a very fun motor to ride. But what kind of bike is it going into? And what kind of riding do you want to do with it?

The yx has a truck load of torque. On my bros 160 I lean all the way over the bars and I still cant keep the front end down. But the downfall with the yx is the carb. Kinda small and cheap. Its worth it to get a better carb.

Re: TB117 vs YX150

Going into this bike

Riding mainly MX and SX tracks with a little trail riding mixed in

The TB 117 has a RJP ported/polished head, custom nikasil TB cylinder, Mikuni 26mm carb kit, Kitaco Ultra complete clutch kit

YX would have a 28mm carb

Re: TB117 vs YX150

Well I know the motor your talkin about. That motor is well built. But a yx150 with a good carb will stomp it IMO.

Re: TB117 vs YX150

That would be a great choice too. Outer rotor, great clutch with oil filter, still lightweight, etc.

Lifan 150
Built TB117
YX150

Re: TB117 vs YX150

the yx has alot more after market parts then the lifan 150 so if you want to build it up more later on to say 160 or 190 or wateva its a good engine for you but the lifan 150 out of the box is a bettter engine then the yx,but then again you cannot beat the honda engine in strength and reliability if i was building a tuff race bike id probly put the lifan 150 first then a carby,hi comp piston and cam in the lifan and it would "HOON" then the TB117 then the yx

Re: TB117 vs YX150

since you already have the clutch go up to a 124se, sell off your current engine kit to fund partially and it will walk all over a yx150 with honda reliability to boot.

Re: TB117 vs YX150

I have a reeg 70 with the yx 150 and a friend of mine has the same setup on a 70 but he has the tb117 with the tawki tranny. And I would say that I was more impressed with the tb117. It blew me away. I have sence then installed the plus r head and would like to ride them back to back again

I dont have the clutch

basicly i was thinking of buying a used TB117 or getting a new YX150/160

The 117 is around 750 and i know i can get a 150 for 500

I am just trying to justify the extra 250 bucks cause out the moment i'm strapped for cash

Re: TB117 vs YX150

I'd get the 150, make sure the clutch nut is tight, swap to a real carb, and ride. Or get a Lifan 150 if you don't plan future mods.

haha! I love how all engine discussions compare apples to oranges in terms of motors and the riders skill level/ability is NEVER taken into account.

"Riding mainly MX and SX tracks with a little trail riding mixed in"

A Lifan 150 will waste a TB117, all day, every day. Even if the used race motor he's talking about isn't a ragged hag. A YX with some compression and a real carb will do the same. The worse the rider, the bigger the difference.

Hell. Even I get around good on the tractors

As long as you're down there below the belt...

Keep the nut tight, and they seen to last just fine under less than 16-17HP Not that a 117 will ever go there.

Interesting how much better people like TB's 3rd world parts than YX and Lifan's...
