Bronze for availability, lubricity and ease of machining.

I won't vote, but I know Kibblewhite has their own blend, AMPCO45. They list a lot of pros for it in their marketing material.

Ampco45 is a really high strength (mainly copper) alloy with better properties than pretty much all Nickel-Aluminum Bronze alloys. I use it for both valve guides and seats (especially for titanium valves). They have proven themselves to me through many applications. Plus, I normally run titanium valves and steel seats can have a chemical reaction at the atomic level that eventually erodes the titanium. All I run is Ampco45. In my mind, it is superior in all aspects required in the use of valve guides and seats.

I have installed hundreds of bronze guides in auto heads and these little bikes don't see many hours when compared.

Kibblewhite already has 50 valve guides from std-.005" oversize. I have about 14 in a box in the garage of various sizes with about 30 seats of various sizes. If Kibblewhite doesn't have them in stock I could set you up. They are not expensive either. Chances are Kibblewhite can get them to you in a week.

My Mood: | Re: Valve guides They don't see the hours but auto's don't see these rpms. When it comes to guides it's always a good idea no matter what the application. Especially the exhaust. The environment valves run in with the guides is extreme: high speeds, high temps, tight tolerances, and very little lubrication.

Do you know if you want std or oversize by a thou or so? They all require reaming to valve guide but I'm sure you knew that. I'll get with you on price.
