My Vegas Nightmare - Missing Engine

So I just got home from MMSX. I had trouble getting my bike on the plane

(That story is here)

So I sent my engine overnight via FedEx for $350 round trip.

This is what showed up, a broken box with no engine in it

Fed Ex called today and said they never found it and I can send in a claim. So if anyone sees a stock mod 50 engine, with lightened flywheel for sale let me know. I feel like I lost a child, I LOVED that engine, and put so much time, money and work into, it makes me sick to even think about.

Here is the finished bike I didn't even get to race. I spent so much time and money building this thing and preparing. I can't even tell you how dissapointed I was that I didn't get to race it.

I walked around and no one really had anything to sell.

Luckily the guys at MotoVert are awesome, and they had I bike I could buy, and Tommy (the owner of MotoVert) even let me race one of the team bikes so he can just send me a brand new one in a crate, and I wouldn't have to worry about getting it home.

The bike was sick, I just wish I had more time to get used to it. It is a lot more powerful than my stock mod 50 I was planning to race, and I haven't spent much time on a 12" yet, so I was very timid on it which is a suck feeling while your racing.

But I got to race, which was cool. It would have sucked if I didn't even get to go on the track, because I spent so much to get there.

Darn shame... Sorry to hear of your loss.

As a side note, it should help remind people that you should stick duct tape with your info on it, on the motor and/or attach a wire tag or two to it, in case your crate comes apart. The clear totes don't take impacts very well.

Hopefully FedEx will help cover the loss.

Re: My Vegas Nightmare - Missing Engine

Yeah FedEx said they will cover it, but I only insured it for $450, I have no idea why. I just thought, worst case I could buy a GPX engine for $450, not thinking it would get lost. Plus I get back the $350 I was going to lose shipping it. So that pays for half the MotoVert right there.

I really don't know if it was stolen or handled poorly, or a combination.

Yeah Tommy is THE MAN, and now I know if I ever have a problem he is the kind of guy you can trust will help you out. I highly reccomend Motovert for the people and their products, especially since the bike cost less than my stock mod, but is twice the beast right out of the box!

Above all, anyone that reads this should learn a few lessons because this should never have to happen again

* Be careful what you ship in

* Buy extra insurance

* Tag your name on it

I know a lot of people sell stuff here and ship, and if I sold the engine, the same thing would have happened then.

Re: My Vegas Nightmare - Missing Engine

Yeah I would have been a competitor in that for sure, I was dead last in both races on the 12" Am. I need to get used to the bike, I nose cased the step up in practice, and went down in the whoops. I had never spent much time riding with a clutch either so I stalled a few times, so that didn't help.

Re: My Vegas Nightmare - Missing Engine

I could check everything else on the plane, except the engine and gas tank, I shipped those.

I insured it for $450, which is way low, but I also get back the $350, which is a little better. I want to pack another one the same way, and insure it for $10,000 which costs $150, then send it out.

ALWAYS ship motors in coolers. never flimsy plastic boxes for this exact reason.. lesson learned eh? that really sucks dude, and it BS they cant find it. its a motor... can't go too far without the bike... really sucks dude!

Re: My Vegas Nightmare - Missing Engine

Yeah I know, how can the engine be gone, it was out of my sight for less than 24 hours, and went 3 places.

Yeah ****ty lesson to learn. I just wish it happened shipping it home so I at least got to race.

your motor has probably been traded for crack rock by now, ever seen the employees that work at the fedex terminals? federal record, no problem, come work for fedex

dude that really sucks, keep on pressuring Fedex and always ask to speak to a supervisor, they usually at least have prison GED's

well I can only speak for the one here in Atlanta

They said they would pay, just send over the receipts. So I will send all the receipts for the hotel, plane, AMA membership, race entry fee, shipping receipt, and receipts for all the parts.
