Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls,

In an effort to give you up to the minute updates on track conditions, start times, postings of results, photos, videos and more, Stimilon has stepped into the modern age by joining Twitter.

Some of you know and are familiar with Twitter – if so please goto davo (stimilon) on Twitter and follow us for important updates. Make sure to enable your mobile device to receive texts otherwise this service is useless. Feel free to skip ahead as I explain this to everyone else.

For those of you not familiar with Twitter allow me to explain:

When my brother told me about twitter I laughed. I am not into my space, facebook and all those other teenie bopper things (I guess I am finally showing my age at 40). But when I learned that it could be used for business as a broadcast texting service I was interested. I feel that texting is a very efficient way to communicate – I mean who wants to always “talk” with someone?

First you should know that Twitter is a FREE service – it wont cost you a dime to sign up or use, but check your texting plan on your cell.

By using Twitter, we can effectively update you with short texts (twitter only allows messages up to 140 characters long – which is perfect because its short and sweet) on your cell phone about various things, like for instance, track conditions. At Round 2 at Crow Hill it rained the night before and the morning of. I posted an update at 530 am on the news section of the web but if you were already in transit like so many of you coming from far away are, you missed it. With Twitter I can send text messages from my phone from the track. I could let you know that we were delaying things 1 hour to allow the track crews to fix the track. I could let you know that at 830 it stopped raining. I could let you know that after practice we were fixing the track again and I could let you know the track was near perfect come race time – all via texts on your cell phone. Now some will find this useful and others will not – but I encourage you to at least try it.

Side Note: I hope by know you all know that in the 7 years running the MoM events, if we are running it is because I believe we can offer a superior race and that we will do everything we can to make sure the conditions warrant it. I work very closely with the track crews and I am well aware of the limitations of the little bikes (and how precious your graphics are). If we are running, it is not b/c I want to make money, but it is bc we feel we can still offer you a great event.

AND WE’RE BACK… So to get updates via your cell phone follow these steps to get on board:
1. goto Twitter: What are you doing?
2. Click the green “Get Started – Join!” button
3. Fill out your name, pick a user name, password, and your email and create your account
4. On the next screen hit “skip this step” below continue
5. Click “Finish”
6. OK – now you are on but there is some housekeeping
7. In the upper right click “following” – twitter junks you up with pre selected people to follow – dump them or you will be bombarded with junk texts
8. After clicking “following” you will see a screen with a bunch of random celebrities, CNN, etc – just click “remove” for each of them on the right side – do this for anyone you don’t want to be bothered from (my suggestion is all unless you are super lonely) It is usually about 20 random “follows”
9. Next click “Home” in the upper right hand corner to bring you to your page – almost done
10. Click “Turn on your mobile phone” in the center of your screen – this allows you to get messages on your handheld.
11. Type in your phone number with area code with a +1 first (ex +12125551212) – this adds your phone and country code and click “It’s okay for twitter to send messages to my phone” this will only send updates you approve of – so don’t sweat it.
12. You can play with the other tabs when you want – Account, password, notices, pictures (to upload your precious face), etc
13. Last thing – goto davo (stimilon) on Twitter and select “follow” in the upper left – you are now following us and will receive updates
14. DONE!

Please note – we have no intentions of using this for socializing – we are all business baby (like we want to talk with you any more than we have too anyways…) We only intend to use this to notify you of something of relevance to our events – track conditions, when we post results on the web, Matt Francis Photos, Swiatek videos, etc.

Our goal is to simply keep you informed. Sometimes you may get several updates in one day – like event day when weather is iffy, sometimes you may not hear from us for days – which means there is nothing important. We will still continue to post updates on the web for those who are mobily challenged
