Ruckus power upgrades ????????

OK so I see a lot of cosmetic mods to the Ruckus, but not a whole lot in the power department. All I've been able to find are some pipes and clutching mods. One site I saw had a cam. Who's got the skinny on real performance parts for these things ? I have a customer who needs a bit more pulling power going up hills an such (he's no lightweight ifyaknowwhatimsayin)... Please enlighten me...
Thanks.

chp has a pipe and clutch.

you could get a gy6 150 engine and it would do about 55 for around 750 bucks.

Jim,

Increase the power to weight ratio and go on a diet.

No available engine kits (BBK's) out of Japan from the mainstream companies at the moment.

Haha...that's what I told him...I tried telling him to buy something I can actually hop up a little but he likes the Ruckus too much. I cant see just a pipe and some clutching helping all that much in the grunt department.

What is a "GY6" engine ?

Re: Ruckus power upgrades ????????

with that engine you have to get some special mounts otherwise it sits too low. at least thats what i read

so that bore kit i put up wont work? i thought it worked for the ruckus engine

:: Chanito motor ::
sells a 58cc bore kit for the ruckus. It takes some work to install though.

You can't go much bigger than that on the original motor because of the way it's made. The cylinder is'nt removable like on a crf50, etc.

Best bang for your buck is a polini or KN variator($60-$100) and a set of different variator weights to adjust to his riding needs.

Most of the bolt on stuff for the ruckus is just for looks and some stuff hurts the performance over stock.

Sucks, but it is what it is. Only other option is motor swap.

Re: Ruckus power upgrades ????????

Most guys go with a GY6 swap (Generic Chinese scooter motor) that are usually 150cc and they can BB it to 180cc. Some guys have gone the 2-smoke route and done Yamaha Zuma Swaps with 70-80cc head. A very select few had done a Yamaha Grand Axis swap (110cc) 2-smoke with 125cc BB.

I plan to go the Zuma route and go with 70cc head. I have that on my Italian scoot and it does 55-60 easy and tops out around 67mph. Here is a thread full of pics of the swap bikes. You can tell the 2-stroke from the 4-strokes by how the motors are mounted and of course the exhausts.

Just for kicks, here is a pic of my Ruckus

You can find more info on it here in a complete build thread along with some of my other bikes.

Honda GY6 hard to find? Aren't the China copies of that? A watercooled 150cc version, with some port work, a cam, carb, pipe, compression, would almost be fun enough to be worth the shame of riding a scooter

The GY6 is a Chinese motor, not made by Honda and are relatively cheap and easy to find. I believe all of them are air-cooled. Even the Yamaha Zuma Horizontal Minarelli Motors are air-cooled. I was just lucky enough to have a liquid cooled version in my Malaguti. I rather put in the Yamaha motor, which was Italian designed rather than a GY6 and that is the route I am going.

Re: Ruckus power upgrades ????????

Right-ish. The GY6 chinese motors are copies of an 80's Honda motor. Maybe worth hunting down an original?

What exact 80's 150cc motor is the GY6 a knock off of? Or was it an original 50cc Honda motor of some kind?
