My Mood: | 119 DOHC reliability?
Does anyone have experience with the Daytona 119 DOHC kit? I'm going to build a "stocker" to full around on the street with and I want to drop a DOHC with Takegawa 5 speed in the stock chassis. I don't know why, something might be wrong with me, but I think that would be so awesome/badass. Here's my question...how reliable are these motors? I understand it's big displacement and HP and that hurts reliability some so I know it's not gonna be as reliable as the bulletproof stock engine. Also, do I need a special exhaust for this head? I think that Tak DOHC called for a special exhaust if I'm not mistaken. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I built a Kitaco 124SE with a 4 speed and manual clutch kit for a Stock chassis bike. Wow what a ride. The Daytona 119 engines are a very reliable engine. Go for it. Please. |

If you are going to buy a Daytona "kit" that is the head and some other parts , i read a thread somewhere here at PM that it is half chinese parts . One of the vendors was offering the Daytona "kit" . In that thread it ended up being called a Chi-tona Takegawa is all japanese and i believe very expensive , it's for serious mini moto racing . BTW there is a guy selling a 12 Bar in the classified section . Last edited by Crazy D; 12-27-2009 at 10:59 AM. |

Both engines will make more than enough power for a stock chassis. The thing that I do like about the Takegawa engine is adjustable cam timing sprockets that come with it. You can mod the sprockets to adjust the cam timing on a Daytona engine but unless you have machinery to do it, not really cost effictive. Especially if you don't know what you are doing. | |
