50 idles extreme

ok i dont know what the hell is the matter with my bike. i rode it around two days ago and now when i go to start it up today it roars and stays idling high. i messed with the fuel/air mix screw and the idle screw but it doesnt seem to do anything to it. still revs high. should i be loosening the idle and fuel air mix or tighten? ive tried both but still the bikes insists on idling very high.

clean your carb and check your cable too. sounds like your slide is stuck up by something like a sand grain or your cable could have a kink/be bent
just a thought..good luck

Re: 50 idles extreme

you shoulda just loosened the idle first and seen what happened. that way you could of known for sure if it wasnt just the idle. cuz now the idle/fuel/air could be messed up

Re: 50 idles extreme

carbs brand new it wasnt over flowing with gas. i took the filter off to see if the slide was sticking and it wasnt. you can see about less than a 1/4 of the needle.

does anyone know what stock is for the fuel/air mix and idle screw?

my sons race bike sticks at times towards the end of a really muddy day if i dont clean the carb and you problem sounds the same as what ive run into. again,id reccommend cleaning the carb really good. all it takes is 1 spec of sand to screw your stuff up

just set the A/F screw 2 to 2 and half out that is usually stock area. Your slider/throttle is getting pulled somewhere causing it to rev. Take the carb apart, like everyone else is saying, if not follow the cable and make sure there is no kinks in it, also look and see if your cable as an additional adjuster that could of loosened up causing it to pull the throttle more.

Re: 50 idles extreme

do you think i slight kink in the fuel line would effect anything? i have some pics. in these pics the fuel line is going upwards. before i took carb off to look at the slide and the bowl it was downward but with the same slight kink. i started it earlier and wants to run and idle right it just keeps dying on me, and it also idles high for the first 3 seconds of start up and idles down the eventually dies.

if ur bendin the fuel line like that your gonna run lean, so it would act just like you say, high idle. just reroute it better, or what i do on these minis is i use a 90 deg fuel filter. you know the ones that look like an "L".

Well I just cut the line shorter it got rid of the kink. I haven't tested it yet cause it's late. Should I still get an "l" shaped fuel line adapter? Or keep it the way I got it?

Re: 50 idles extreme

If you just had the carb on and off , make sure the carb is tight against the intake . If it is loose , air will get sucked in there and cause a vacuum leak and make the idle fast . Also make sure the intake is tight to the head and not loose and all the gaskets are ok .
Don't over tighten them though

If you took out the fuel line kink and it looks like the fuel flows threw the line ok , the line should be fine the way you cut it .
