O.K. I had a BBR FTP 88cc kit on my bike. I recently upgraded to a TB 88cc Race Head and high comp piston. I had the BBR cylinder honed for the new piston and rings. I have to now split my cases for a 4 speed tranny install. I'm running low on funds but would like to add a stroker crank as long as the cases are split. My questions are? Is the TB 88cc piston the same as the TB 108cc piston? TB lists them seperately? And if they are the same can just the stroker crank be added using my 88cc piston and rings without honing the cylinder again? I don't really want to hone the cylinder again because it removes material each time. I don't really want to buy a new cylinder. Any info would be appreciated, thanks... |

Hey this isnt answering your q's but...did you notice a big differnce with upgrading to the head and high comp piston? Also whats honing and is it required and how much is it. I do think the pistons are the same though, and yah i think you just add the stoker to it. I dont know what honing is im guessing cleaning it by shaving |

Yeah, it's worth the $200 from TB for the race head and piston. Honing is scratching the cylinder walls in a criss cross pattern so that the new piston rings will wear to the size of the cylinder.

Honing isn't very expensive. About 15-30 min. of labor if you have to have it done I guess. Everytime you get new rings you should hone the cylinder or get a new one. Any info on helping me with my questions anybody??? |

honing adds the necessary cross hatch grooves to maintain good lubrication and it also straightens the cylinder walls, but I have an 88kit with the E22 head which I think ismore like the crf70 head but much bigger then stock but huge difference. it will rev a lil higher, more overall power but even better top end power. and better sound too. and the high compression maximizes race gas.

Your racehead piston will work with the 107 kit. I dont see why it wouldnt. So just order the crank. I run 106tak with e22 head with tb's race head piston. E22 is just like the older style tb raceheads, before the revised version came out. I personally think that the smaller valves preforms better on the 88cc kits vs the new tb style heads with larger valves. I felt that I lost too much low end grunt with the bigger valve heads. Lefty, your going to need a bigger carb like 20mm, I run 22mm on mine. |

long as your using the same piston and cylinder, honing is not necessary. If she runs good I would not worry about it. I have a tool for honing if you need one done. It takes like Minute, if that.

Cool, you don't think I'll need to hone the cylinder again if the rings will be reaching more of the cylinder than before it was stroked?

Forget last post, you answered my ? Thanks. I'm just trying to get away from honing it again because it removes material from the cylinder each time.

I think I'll just add the crank for now then as long as the cases are split. Worry about upgrading the carb at a later time. TB only lists a kit that comes with a piston and rings. Does anyone know for sure if I can buy the kit without the piston and rings?

If it makes you sleep better at nite, then I would just give it a quick Hone. It really depends how your cylinder looks & how many hours you got on it. Which 4speed did you get and what counter sprocket are you running. | |

I've got a stock TRX70 tranny coming off of here. I've read they're pretty good and strong for the $55 I spent. It's suppose to be a drop in but with a better 2nd gear and slightly higher 4th over 3rd in the 3 speed.

I guess I'll be running the stock counter sprocket?

Pistons are different. Hone is probably not necessary if the motor hasn't been run much since the last hone.

Anybody? Someone should know for sure if the pistons are different. And if they are different, how are they different?
