My Mood: | Affordable Telescopic Forks for Stockers ?
What are the choices in stock length and +1 for OEM hubs and drum brakes? Right now if you ride a stocker with a sloppy, bottoming, bent frontend, the only affordable solution is a new set of fork legs (usually +1), HD springs and harder bushings. That's a ~$180 package. Some China Stockers have telescopic forks. I think vendors should make them available for XR/CRF. |

I agree... but those forks are not the solution. They have about an inch or two of travel reguardless of what the spec sheets say. They usually have rubber mounted handlebar clamps that move around a lot when you yank on them, or lean forward heavily in a stoppie type situation. That one has a very interesting adapter piece to go from disk brake style to drum brake. Check out Brand X Minis on ebay... they offer the SP5 knockoff style conventional forks cheaper than upgrading your stock forks to plus ones with HD springs. The forks in the picture with better designed triple clamps (even just the top clamp) wouldn't be bad if they retailed for no more than 100 dollars for the forks and clamps... which is very feasable for the price of the parts. Yes, that bike has a weak stock CRF style top plate and integrated bar/clamp. It should be like the current Pitster XJR SS. (last year's BSE). MX style clamps, casted aluminum top and steel bottom tree. Are SP5 longer than +1 ? |

SP5's are a lot longer than stock... probably something like 5 inches taller. Are the pitster handlebar clamps rubber mounted? These forks almost need a billet aluminum top clamp like an aftermarket CRF50 takes.
