BBR 106cc vs TB 108cc

Going to build an engine for my BBR, Perimeter Frame, Crf50 in the next month or so. I have my choice of engines to start with, my current 06 Crf50(88/cyl.) or a spare, stock, 08 Crf70 motor(would rather save for another project). Don't want to get into having cases bored, I am capable of doing all of the assembly work myself. I can get either kit for pretty much the same price. I know the BBR retail's for a good bit more, but I have the hook up. I would rather just keep my bike all BBR. The real question is, with price not being an issue, which Big bore, Stroker kit would you buy?

Thanks, Gary

I was leaning towards BBR because I have read on here they have great customer support. And seem to be willing to help with set up, and tuning issues.

BBR head is much nicer. Very similar to the Tak R-Stage (NOT +R). Nicer piston too. If the price is even close, I'd get the BBR.

Re: BBR 106cc vs TB 108cc

I was hoping someone would recommend the BBR, That's kinda what I am thinking I want to get. With that engine modifications, am I going to have problems with the stock clutch? Will I be okay with the stock set up, If I get a HD clutch kit? Or do I need to go to a set up with the clutch on the main shaft instead of the crankshaft. Oh yea, I was thinking of installing a TB 4-speed while I have the case's split. Does that sound okay?

Thanks, Gary

Re: BBR 106cc vs TB 108cc

Big "yes" on the 4 speed, and "no" on the stock clutch. Crank mount is OK, but a TB, Tak or 70 setup is gonna be needed if you're using all the new power. Mainshaft mount adds big dollars, and responsiveness.

Re: BBR 106cc vs TB 108cc

If you read back in my original post I have a 08 Crf70 motor I can do the build with,(wanted to keep it for something else) if it would make a difference? Will I still need to mod the clutch, if I used the 70 motor?

Re: BBR 106cc vs TB 108cc

I just goof around on the bike, Trail riding or Mini MX tracks. Looking for more power to pull me around, (Weight around 225) I have a Crf250 that I usually ride. I just ride the Crf50 when ever I take my Gf's son (he's 10) riding, He rides my Crf70, or we switch back and forth.

Re: BBR 106cc vs TB 108cc

i had a TB108 with a 4 speed and HD clutch and it was alright. i was actually kinda dissapointed. BUT then i got the manual clutch kit and holy shiit it makes it much faster in my opinion, plus you can give it clutch out of the corners and all that other stuff. its all about the manual clutch

you can get cheap TB manual clutches on ebay, or BrandX for reall really cheap but they arent too good. the primary gear broke on mine and rubber ended up all up in my engine. i had to take it apart to clean out all the rubber

Re: BBR 106cc vs TB 108cc

Ya, a manual sounds like a good idea, I guess I can add to the list. Just gonna start gathering up parts and kits one at a time over the next month or so until I got everything to do it.

Re: BBR 106cc vs TB 108cc

We built a BBR 106 engine with a new D2 pipe for my boy Devin . He is 10 and his weight is 58 lbs, so the top end on this bike rips for him. I believe this engine makes right around 10.5 HP with the VM 26 carb. We have been working with Brent and Duane at BBR and their customer support is great!!

In saying that though, we have had a persistent low end bog with the motor. We have used the VM26 Mikuni and 24 Kehin carbs and the 24 seems to work better. The 26 has better top end pull though. BBR is going to get a new cam with a new slotted sprocket to us because we want to try some different timings. BBR is helping us on our project, as Devin is doing some development on the engine. They are having some small issues, and they are looking at the problems some of these engine kits pose with the smaller crowd. (ridability and starting)

We have a Kitaco clutch with a new 3 speed tranny, but he cannot start this bike with the compression it has. This would probably let the run more on top end from dead starts and tight corners, but if he stalls it......

Congrats on Devin on his 2nd at the 2Up East Coast nationals!! And thanks to the Sokal brothers for all their work!! Even without our problems, we did as well as we could! And thanks to Billy at 2up for all the other parts he got us and the races he put on. We are real new to the pitbike racing scene, but Devin was getting burned out on the regular racing. He loves the atmosphere and the days don't last all day. Devin loves this and we are going to do this more than 4 times next year! We are making this form of racing our priority over AMA racing.

Ride on!!!

Re: BBR 106cc vs TB 108cc

Amen on the AMA racing. I myself am burned out on the local racing...seems like you wait around all day long to run a total of 8-10 laps. I just can't justify the sunburn anymore. I think I'm going to try to place my focus on a few bigger races at some different tracks next season (out of state), hopefully this will help renew the vigor a little.

Thanks, I will be getting the BBR kit soon, I already ordered an AHP 4-speed, to install while the cases are split. I will look to you in the future for advice if I have a carb tuning issue.

Id'e like to hear how you like it when you get it all together. 4 speed tranny (3 speed with a granny gear) would be nice; I am curious if you see a huge improvement.
