Question To Cat 5 cradle mount - or - To not Cat 5 cradle mount ???? That is the question ...

I'm look'n into either gett'n the Billetware cradle mount frame or the the Cat 5 bolt on cradle mount set up . I'm do'n my regular research'n all avenues before I buy anything deal . In this case , I've been recommended to get the Cat 5 bolt on cradle mount over the Billetware frame due to the cost factor only . And I thought that you guys would be of great help to me on this one . I can't seem to really find much info on it or any pics of them mounted on a bike . If I can save some money by gett'n the Cat 5 and it'll be as good if not better than the Billetware frame then great !!!

I have some questions that hopefully you guys can answer for me ???

- Is this bolt on mount as good or better than the Billetware frame .

- Can you honestly say that the Cat 5 mount has really done it's job ? ?

- If I do get the Cat 5 mount , Do I install the Cat 5 mount precisely as per the instruction that comes with it ? ( if any come with it at all ?? ) Or is there a better way of installing it to make it support even better ?? If that last sentence made any scence ?

- Will bolt'n it on to my frame be good enough ?

- Last one for now .
Will (all) foot peg mounts work with this mount ? I have the BBR one and was told in another thread that it won't work with the Billetware cradle frame .

THANX FOR YOUR HELP !!!

Check out this review I did a while back when this product came onto the market> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCeIZz1fJGk

Just bolting it on will offer strength, but IMO not as good as a true cradle frame. But if you weld it then it may be just as strong. All foot peg mounts will work with the kit. It comes with excelent instructions and all hardware nessary. I am happy with it.

^^ Great review, I just bought one the other day. For the installation, do you need to drill any holes or does it just bolt right up to any frame?

You have to drill one hole thru your frame to bolt it on. I put a Cat5 Cradle mount on my sons Pitster and ran a motor with a broken top motor mount in it for a few months. It did bend the top motor mount bolt but never broke the cases any more. I still have the mount on another Pitster now and no more broken motors. It is alot stronger than not having it but I dont think it is quite as strong as the billetware frame.

-Yes the cat5 cradle definetly does it's job.

-The BBR pegmount won't work with either setup.

-When installing it put the motor/bike on a stand so the motor tilts slightly upward from taking the weight off of it and that will kinda preload the cradle mount. (Do this before you drill it.)

-I think bolting it on is the better way, only because I have heard the cradle frames are very difficult to get your motor in and out of. And their top mount is removable. So welding this in might make you motor removal and installation real difficult.

Dude - hope you take this the right way. You sound like one of those 1960 Bruce Brown videos or something... (Endless Summer) "And --the --swell --came --in --and --we --hung --10 --on --the --nose. --It --was --really --groovy".

Good little vid though. I've been looking for that thing for my XR70. Saw it on eBay a while back - or one similar. MP

Well I take it as a compliment as Bruce Brown is an inspirational figure. He gave us the *best* motorcycle movie made.

Holy crap guys this way more than I would have ever expected for info !!!!!!!!!! ( clapping !!!!! )

- I think I'm see'n in the pics that the lower motor mount looks of a larger diameter , yes ???? If it so and I have to drill out the eng mount , what size did you use for a drill bit ?

- Should I get a bolt the same size and do it to the top one also ???

Thanx again guys !!!!!

I think the cat 5 cradle mount is a awsome bolt on mod. Even if you already broke your top mount you can still use the cradle and the motor with the broken top mount untill you can fix it. Or just leave it be. Cat5 did a awsome job when coming out with that. my.02

No you don't have to change the dia of the existing holes.
The cradle mount comes with all of the bolts already.
The mounting instructions tell you what size drill bit to use.

So, is the consensus that you CAN or CANT run the cat5 cradle mount with his BBR pegmount? Or in my case my DC pegmount?

you can run the bbr mount with no probs, welding it on makes it impossible to get the engine in or out. i ruined a frame and mounts. it didnt work.

Why would cat5 make it so that most dont fit? They dont sell pegmounts so I dont get it. How do we know which ones fit? And I think the one DC sells is about the same as the Five0 pegmount.

I just called Cat5 and am waiting on a call back. I will get the info from the source, so you will know what fits and what doesn't.
