Filter on Crankcase Breather tube?

I was just curious to see how many people were using a filter on their crankcase breather tube.

I bought a Uni for my stock carb, and wasn't sure if I should bother with a filter for the crankcase breather, or just run the hose down the back of the frame/engine and let it dangle filterless.

I guess the only reason for the filter would be to prevent the crankcase from sucking in dirt. I would think that would be very remote though?

unless you have a really short tube you wont need a filter, run the tube to the rear of the bike and try to keep the tube elevated, as you rev the engine hard it will force some oil up the tube if the tube elevated the iol will go back into the head rather than ou the end of the tube

Re: Filter on Crankcase Breather tube?

I just put a bolt in the end of the tube to plug it up and it works fine and has been. Whether or not this is good advise or not I dont know. But it works just fine for me.

if you plug the tube your not letting the head breath it needs to be open.

Re: Filter on Crankcase Breather tube?

I rigged a filter out of that little black box thing that connects the crankcase breather tube to the stock air box and recirculates the air to the carb. Since it has two nipples on it, and I have a head breather also, I connected my head breather tube to one nipple and the crankcase breather tube to the other. I cut out a small portion on the back of it and wedged a piece of the stock air filter into it. It's slightly ghettoish, but it works fine.
